Re: A Dream No Mortal Ever Dared to Dream Before

posted by on October 31 at 13:00 PM

For Halloween, and in response to Jonah’s post of Stan Lee reading “The Raven,” I was going to post this video of Christopher Walken reading “The Raven.” But then I happened across this:

And it’s clearly the creepiest thing I’ll see all day. I’ve never seen Romance and Cigarettes. Is the entire movie like this?

Yes. And it's fucking awesome.

I saw a few previews for this flick on other indie DVDs which really got me interested. So the GF and I rent it, and I think we managed to squirm through the first 20 minutes or so before turning it off. Utterly unwatchable drivel.

Yeah, it's pretty godawful. I did like the dancing cancer cells, though.

Holy shit, I agree with Mr. Poe. ::twitch:: But seriously, it's awesome. Watch it because it's fun, and because everything is insane. Just like this scene.

I love it. Christopher Walken is insane, and I mean that in the best possible way. He seems to get more brilliant with age.

As an aside, much as I'm a Walken fan, that isn't all that great a rendition of The Raven.

My favorite Raven is the Simpson's version. Yes, I know I should be ashamed.

My favorite creepy Walken is as the Archangel Gabriel in The Prophecy. Yikes!

It's very strange -- the actors all sing over the original tracks with original vocals intact. Kate Winslet does a remarkable job and is the bright spot, as usual. It's weird, but kind of a cool novelty.

There are two ways to watch this movie: Sober (the wrong way) and totally, wickedly drunk (the right way). You need to keep drinking throughout or else you'll realize what you're doing. Friends help, too.

It's not that it's bad, it just is. It's full of good moments, but they're put together wrong.

But if you're a fan of all-singing, all-dancing Walken -- like that music video he was amazing in -- then it's worth a watch.

By "creepy" you must mean "awesome".

Here's another creepy yet awesome: young, shirtless Walken. Oh. Yes.
