She's actually invoking a right that is as powerful in American political culture as well as it is fictitious: the right to feel comfortable, aka the freedom from fear. It doesn't exist. But it's a way of conflating hurt feelings with the violation of civil liberties. So, for instance, if a homeless person asking you for money on the street makes you feel uncomfortable, all the sudden they've violated your rights and can be forcibly removed from public places and even locked up in jail. Palin is making a similar argument about how she should be free from things that make her uncomfortable-- in this case criticism. It's a specious argument. But it's not novel.

One of the best things the First Amendment does is give people all the rope they need to hang themselves with. Witness the short happy political life of Sarah Palin. Or witness the First Amendment giving the GOP all the sandbags it wants to sink itself.

Why a power mad ignoramus like Palin ever even get's elected at all is a sign of how sick right wing religious nut cases are.
