While it’s Still Technically a Race

posted by on June 2 at 17:55 PM

The Clinton-obsessed will want to be sure to check out the new Vanity Fair article on Bill Clinton.

It provoked a nearly 2,500-word response from the Clinton camp yesterday, and today on the trail Bill Clinton “unleashed a salty stream of epithets” in order to describe his opinion of the article’s author, Todd S. Purdum.

What’s in the piece? Here’s the teaser:

Old friends and longtime aides are wringing their hands over Bill Clinton’s post–White House escapades, from the dubious (and secretive) business associations to the media blowups that have bruised his wife’s campaign, to the private-jetting around with a skirt-chasing, scandal-tinged posse. Some point to Clinton’s medical traumas; others blame sheer selfishness, and the absence of anyone who can say “no.” Exploring Clintonworld, the author asks if the former president will be consumed by his own worst self.

There’s no actual allegation that Clinton has indeed been chasing skirts or doing anything illegal—although the same can’t be said for every member of his “scandal-tinged posse.” And the article is, in the end, built upon a lot of anonymous quotes and conjecture. But everyone’s is talking about the piece. Including Bill.

This gets me so hot for some reason. Mmm. Mmmmm. I love it when the tapeworm wiggles.

Huffington Post:

Bill Clinton today unleashed a salty stream of epithets to describe ... Todd Purdum, calling him "sleazy," "dishonest," "slimy" and a "scumbag."

They call that salty?

"skirt-chasing".... ugh. That phrase sucks even if you're using it to convey the mentality of the "posse".

Normally I would read this article right awy, but for some reason, it just seems kind of trashy.

This would be a non-issue for a male candidate whose wife was flying around the world in the private jet of a wealthy woman who had become pregnant by someone else's husband. Can Hillary just NOT get a break?

isn't vanity fair known for their meticulous fact checking? and is it really difficult to believe that bill clinton is [still] a womanizing douchebag? or... maybe there's a vast LEFT-wing conspiracy working against them now. man, those clintons just can't win!

Whatever the amount of conjecture and so on, Clinton opens himself up to it by hanging out with these creeps. It's the business stuff that gets me, not the skirts. These are some very sleazy people.

That's not the salty stream Bill is used to unleashing.

Bill's making a serious mistake getting this angry over it in public. He should have released a statement decrying the piece and then refrained from emitting a stream of epithets of any flavor. Number one: he's supposed to be acting presidential. Number two: getting that red in the face over it just increases suspicion.

Bill Clinton is just red-faced over anything and everything these days. Whatever happened to the easygoing good ol' boy, spooging all over his staff?

Good to hear from the all-important Youtube comments demographic, there, "why'd he". We'll, uh, keep it in mind.

Seme, the skirt-chasing stuff is just the tip of the iceberg. Clinton hangs with some VERY dubious "business" associates, and they have been under-scrutinized. That suspicious deal he did with Uzbekistan a while back is just the beginning.

I was just reading about Bill Clinton's head-spinning-around tourette's fit in reaction to the mob of former henchmen talking smack about him on background, and weighing that against the full on assault the Bush White House is making against their former flunky who can't shut up, and it makes you wonder. With all that going on, Obama is the one with all the drama?

Obama looks pretty serene to me. It's over in the camps of the Bush-Clinton historical feud re-enactment club where all the teeth are being gnashed. It's like what if during the Civil War, the Civil War buffs started dressing up and replaying earlier battles? Yeah, I know.

Enough of all that.

He kind of reminds me these days of that old woman that lived in the merry go round in Mr. Roger's neighborhood; the one with the terribly red nose.

Hey Jonah..... it ain't fucking 7:35am. It's 2:25am in MN. What time warp are you in? Your comments aren't enabled. You just trying to sleep in, but your auto posting fucked up? Busted, ya slacker! How did you fake the time stamp?

@23: Got a deal for you Bob - you take the Clintons for back up in your bar fight (which sounds like a foregone conclusion at this point), and that will free up Obama to run the country. We'll even throw in McCain to help you dodge those head blows . . . for what its worth.

Someone some day will write a really good book on both the monumental strengths and the stunning weaknesses of the Clintons. They really are amazingly interesting to watch. In the best tradition of Greek tragedy.

Race over tonight? Let's hope so.

It is sort of interesting to watch past presidents in their post-presidential life. Nixon and Ford all but disappeared into obscurity. Carter, for all his unpopularity while in office, has reached nearly sainthood in his post-presidency. Reagan descended almost immediately into Alzheimer's. Bush the first rarely makes any public appearances.

Then there is Bill Clinton... He was so popular during his presidency, even at the worst of the Monica scandal. His charisma bowled over the press and the public, for the most part. It is really weird watching him completely loose it during Hillary's campaign. If he'd have self-destructed like that when he was running, he never would have become president himself.

We have arguably endured the worst presidency in the Republic's history, and it still goes on, shameless, unindicted, unapolgetic.

Yet an unsubstantiated hit piece on Bill riles and roils the grey water of the Clintons' alleged vast unpoopularity [sic] once again.

I'm surmising not a few of you out there would love to travel in the luxe Clinton pussy posse, were you only invited.

There is no truth to the rumor that John McCain's wife is a rich slut who stole him from a good wife who raise John's two little daughters while he was in captivity, or to the rumor that John McCain was sleeping with female lobbyists this year.

Other than the truth, that is.

But Republicants don't believe in the truth.

"isn't vanity fair known for their meticulous fact checking?"

Interstingly, the author doesn't even present this as FACT, but merely is repeating RUMORS fed him by his unnamed sources.

Weak at best.
