Hetero Every Child Deserves a Mother and a Father…
posted by February 22 at 10:20 AM
onBenjamin Sargent died with his eyes open, fists clenched and strapped into a car seat after eight days without food or water, the county’s top prosecutor said Wednesday. The 5-month-old was dropped off at his parents’ house on Feb. 4, wearing a bright-blue snow suit and strapped into his car seat. Eight days later, he was found in the same position, said Peoria County State’s Attorney Kevin Lyons during a bond hearing for the parents, who are charged with capital murder for their son’s death….
“He died from starvation due to neglect from these two defendants, his parents,” [said Peoria County State’s Attorney Kevin Lyons], spitting out the last word with contempt.
The story gets worse. This link is not for the faint of heart.

Dan, Are you forwarding all these to James Dobson? This is an outrage that only you are screaming about.
I'm a big believer in civil liberties, but people like this make me seriously consider if we should require a license to breed.
I hate tweakers. I hate people who just get away with breeding. And I'd love to watch these two slowly starve to death.
So, what point is there in continuing to post these stories? We got what you're trying to say a looooong time ago.
Not to mention that making easier for gay couples to adopt would not have made one bit of difference in this child's tragic, short, brutal life.
(and @3, licensing wouldn't help--forced sterilization is the answer)
My mother doesn't want me to have children because I'm gay. Maybe I'll e-mail this article to her and say, "I may be gay, but at least I won't kill my kids."
That poor child. I wonder how the older sister survived to three years old.
God, tears seem to be the way to start this morning.
@5 until we all have equal rights when it comes to marriage, adoption etc. etc. then we have to keep pushing...obviously we get it, but until the other side does these stories should be heard
So who dropped the kid off at their house? A social worker? A more responsible relative?
Jesus Christ! This made me tear up. . .
You do have to wonder how these two were raised, to act like this. And the housemate! Why aren't they filing any charges against the guy living in the garage? He should have at least called CPS on these other two cretins.
While I appreciate the intentions behind these posts - if meth-crazed/self-obsessed gay men could accidently get pregnant, the stories would most likely be even more horrific.
Why do you hate straight people, Dan?
Forced sterilization does not even begin to describe the punishment that would be fitting for these two scumbags. It's a good start though - and definitely without anesthesia or painkillers. After the 8 days of agonizing suffering that this poor baby went through, the worst our civilized society is allowed to inflict on them is the "death penalty" which means 20 years on death row and then a merciful death with a needle. Makes me think that "uncivilized" punishments like stoning really could be appropriate in some cases...
Dan, it saddens me that you feel that you have to post things like this. It will never prove a point with those who don't agree that gay people should be parents, and for those of us (gay, straight, or other) that believe in your civil rights, you don't have to prove anything anyway. Perhaps your anger would better be channeled into writing to your congressman, and trying to make a change yourself. This probably has all the effectiveness of the pro-lifers putting pictures of dead fetuses in people's mailboxes: It's probably never changed anyone's position on the subject.
@8, but in this forum, Dan's just "preaching to the choir". Mainstream America will NEVER equate horrific child abuse at the hands of straights as a reason to give gays equal rights.
Throw 'em in a cell and don't feed 'em. Case closed.
@16, Again, it's a start. Perhaps they should be immobilized as well, so that they can sit in their waste until it eats into their flesh as their baby had to do... Just a thought. :-)
These are mt just your average, everyday irresponsible parents. They're junkies, crackheads; there's something more to the story. As for "not for the faint of heart" - why? Because the kid spent 8 days sitting in piss and shit? Anyone with half a brain had that figured out already.
@ 14: Dan posts these articles to point out the conservative rationale for denying gay couples the right to marry. Namely, that marriage should be reserved for heterosexual couples because they procreate and the resulting children are best raised by their biological parents. By presenting evidence to the contrary, Dan illustrates how absurd this reasoning is, and shows that the real reason - bigotry, is the primary motivator for denying gay couples the right to marry. Unfortunately, repetition is the best way to get the message through, because even our "friends" i.e. Clinton and Obama, think it is OK to deny marriage to gay couples. Keep it up, Dan.
@19, I am aware of Dan's rationale behind posting these articles; however, do you really think that the people that he is trying to preach to are actually reading SLOG?
Dan should collect all of these up, put them in a binder and mail them out to the organizations that are actively against gay marriage.
How is this possible?
i'm also wondering why in the hell the housemate isn't being charged with anything. i had to read that paragraph three times before i realized that it meant just what it said; some random guy noticed the baby hadn't been moved and so he picked the car seat up and plopped it down in another room and then left. wtf?
Thank you Dan. While the story is particularly terrible and difficult to read you do a tremendous service to everyone with these postings by opening people's eyes. I hope you are collecting all of these for future use.
"Gone, Baby, Gone" - see it at your local cinema. You know the ending will be the same as above.
Too bad we cannot shame and criticize irresponsible copulators. Oh wait, we can. Straight people with licenses [to wed] vs. gay people without licenses [to wed] do it all the time.
Dan, don't listen to the naysayers, continue posting these obscenities. And you who don't like 'em -- just look at the headline and skim them. Don't even bother to take 45 seconds to post your objections.
New people read this slog every day. The stories need to be posted so that, a drop at a time, a single raised consciousness at once, the issue of gay-v-het parents is put down, euthanized once and for all.
Why do people like this have children in the first place? I don't get it. It isn't mandatory. If you don't want the damn baby, don't make it. Do they not know what's causing it?
The really sick part is that they can make more kids, no matter how many they let die of neglect. They'll both marry some sicko prison-groupie while they're incarcerated and breed more children whose lives will be unimaginably horrific.
omg. I can't finish reading the story. This is WAY too reminiscent of what happened a few years ago when a guy I knew who graduated a year before me in my hometown killed his baby boy.
fucking.
tweakers.
@27: Most prison systems don't allow conjugal visits for inmates who are married while they are in prison, only to inmates who were married prior to being locked up. So hopefully that means no one will be popping out anything related to these two sick fucks.
Hope that makes you feel better.
This is exactly the kind of crap that happens when two people shack-up out of wedlock and make babies. Shack-ups have no commitment and no responsiblity and are totally hedonistic at the expense of their own flesh and blood. If they were at least married, this probably wouldn't have happened.
Were you high when you wrote this? Or just stupid?
@31: Obviously this is an extreme case but my argument is fundamentally sound. To bring children into the world into a home where the mother and father are not married is putting the kids at risk. Same sex parents should also be married (if possible) or in a civil union (if possible).
The more parents are committed legally (and optionally spiritually), the more they are likely to behave responsibly. But don't take my word for it, ask any social worker or family law attorney and they’ll back me up. Guaranteed.
