You Suppose Seattle Weekly Employees Read David Schmader’s Column?

posted by on July 25 at 16:43 PM

The cover story in the new Seattle Weekly reminds me of something. What could it be? Could it be this? Or this? Or this? Or maybe this? Or this? Or this? Or this? Or this? Or this? Or this? Or this? Or this? Or am I thinking of this? Or this? Or these older ones over here? Or this? Or this? Or this? Or this? Or this? Or this one the week before that? And remember this one? And this one? And wasn’t this one great? And how about this one? Not to mention this one. And while we’re at it this one. Plus this one. Oh and also this one

What's the Seattle Weekly?

Hey y'all, Schmader is a true original. Those schmucks at the Seattle Weakly don't know where they're livin'.

I just went over to the Weakly's site to see what you were talking about, and got distracted by their blog, "The Daily Weekly". The thing was, every blog entry seems to end like this:

You are correct--the Stranger hates buses more than the Weekly.

I am sure your bus-bashing will be very helpful in building support for transit in this town. Faithful readers will keep driving their SOV's with your help.

I had almost forgotten that the Weekly even existed, until you pointed it out.

Stranger cover!

Were there two versions that the box-fillers could choose from to point to the Weekly box next to it? Wish I was here back then

what's really more upsetting is the creeping creeping creeping of the weekly's design to look like Stranger 2 Electric Boogaloo. I don't know what font that is something like Arial Bold Fat Wide that the stranger uses every everywhere but it's cropping up all the hell over the weekly. I wish it would stop.

it's nice to know that somebody's still reading the weekly.

Christopher, you register an impassioned argument. However, doesn't the Weekly hate the Stranger? Aren't they bigger and older?

Don't you think it isn't already awesome enough to be the Weekly? I mean I don't see how they could be doing what you imply. Because why would they just go ahead and want to pinch their nostrils shut without benefit of manual pinch and just go ahead and receive David Schmader's balls in their mouth like that, still concentrating enough to, you know, just go ahead and simultaneously clip his goddamned toenails? At the bench, at the bus stop. Why?

Everyone, their mom, and their brother has been talking shit on the bus here since the first one started rolling like 60 years ago. don't act like you were the first to think it up you pretensious twit.

Wow, last days is the only act in town that knows how to get ahold of police reports on the bus.

Can you share the magic words?

How old are you, twelve? I've enjoyed the last few weeks of Slog, mainly because you--the little shoe gazing snots from art class--have refrained from your "cooler than thou" attitudes about your rival weekly. Please go back to ignoring them. You'll come off as much more grown up.

I love D schmade's last days hot tips, but I also thought the feature about the bus system was good. I didn't know they bus drivers had to file reports for EVERYTHING that happened, and thought that the reason the article was successful was the bus drivers and their wittiness (or despair at having to deal with these people ever again).

Shouldn't The Stranger be happy when the SW gets it right every once in a while? After all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Everytime The Stranger pokes fun at The Seattle Weekly, Michael Lacey skullfucks a spotted owl.

Save endangered species. Ignore The Weekly. Thank you for your kindness.

Christopher, as a former leak at the Weekly yourself, you should know better.

The bus thing was just a hate crime against people riding on bus lines, trying to make the car-driving swells feel good about how they are too busy and important to ride the bus, but might ride light rail.

As opposed to say a Charles Mudede version.

oh, and @5, way more comments on the PI SLOG.

The Stranger also invented ALL FONTS and were the first to put Illustrations on the cover. What? Whats The New Yorker? dont know about that...if its not in Seattle I m not aware of far aas im concerned theres only 2 publications in existance. SW and the Stranger

Thanks for listing all those passing mentions of bus incidents - now, if only the Stranger had thought of compiling them into a single funny story - as the Weekly did - we might not have forgotten them. You also forgot to mention that at SW's site you can hear authors such as Jonathan Raban read the reports aloud. Hint hint Stranger.

You suppose David Schmader is the FIRST and ONLY person to have written about Metro passengers? How does it feel to have invented EVERYTHING? It must be frustrating knowing that everyone is out to steal your ideas, cover stories you've already written about.

And trust me, the only reason the Slog gets as much action as it does is because you update it so often. Which is why Dlisted is the No. 1 celeb blog; MK's a chronic poster.
