News “Absolutely” Winning a Month Before We Were, Uh, “Not Winning”

Today’s Washington Post scoop shows that John Kerry’s not the only one to have committed a mammoth “flip-flop” on the Iraq War.
As he searches for a new strategy for Iraq, Bush has now adopted the formula advanced by his top military adviser to describe the situation. “We’re not winning, we’re not losing,” Bush said in an interview with The Washington Post. The assessment was a striking reversal for a president who, days before the November elections, declared, “Absolutely, we’re winning.”
That is not a flip flop. Bush was hopeful that we we’re winning but now is more realistic. A flip flop is taking a diametrically opposite stance on an issue. See the difference?

Bush was actually quoting someone else when he said that (if you read the interview transcript), for what it's worth, but the article didn't mention that he was quoting.
