Context is Everything

posted by on October 3 at 13:14 PM

That’s the lesson being learned the hard way by Richard Mitchell, the superintendent of Illinois’ Bremen High School District, who’s being threatened with dismissal after creating a video subversively spoofing a number of schoolteachers, then posting it on the school district website. (Click link to see video.)

Clearly, posting the lightly edgy video on the school’s website wasn’t the wisest thing for Superintendent Mitchell to do (although I wish I’d gone to school under a superintendent who understood the value of drug and murder jokes). Still, the charge being led for his dismissal seems to have less to do with the iffy video and more to do with Mitchell’s homosexuality.

1. The video was probably pretty funny (at least if you knew the teachers, inside jokes, etc.)

2. The superintendent was a MORON for posting it on the website. If he had shown it during some kind of teacher/admin retreat, or had it on a private web page, it probably would've been okay. But he totally set himself up for being fired for doing something that lame-brained.

3. In the video, a school board member says something like, "He portrays teachers as killers, as (heh heh) strippers, as drug users. I fail to see the humor in that." Uh, no I don't think you did, lady.

4. The dismissal has to do with his homosexuality --- according to *the superintendent himself*! He better have more than rumors to support his claim.

Yeah, you know, nothing's funnier than when my boss's boss makes 'humorous' videos calling me a drug addicted murderer. Hee fucking haw.

Exposing our sensitive children to these kinds of people leads to the Foley mess. "Lolita" and books like it should be banned. Teachers and everyone who works at our schools must have pure thoughts. Anyone who could make a "joke" video about sex and drugs is a pervert.

I've heard in permissive countries like Sweden they allow nudity on television and even nude beaches. That's disgusting. In American we have morals. This gay teacher should be barred from ever working with children again.
