Murder by Bus?

Posted by on August 31 at 10:50 AM

Early last evening in downtown Seattle—on Third Avenue between Pine and Stewart streets, to be exact—a female pedestrian was fatally crushed by a Metro bus.

What’s more, it doesn’t seem to have been an accident. According to KIRO 7 News, witnesses reported seeing a man on a bicycle push the pedestrian under the bus. “They were arguing or they were playing and she got pushed under a bus,” said eyewitness Eris Washington to KIRO. And while police wouldn’t confirm the alleged pushing, they did detain a man that witnesses said was responsible for the death, whom police found hiding in a dumpster near the death scene.

Further details come from today’s Seattle Times, which reports the arrest of an unnamed 53-year-old man booked early this morning at King County Jail on suspicion of second-degree manslaughter in connection with the death.

Stay tuned for further details. In the meantime, here’s a stupidly upsetting story from stupidly upsetting Pierce County, where on Tuesday afternoon, a uniformed National Guardsman was brutally attacked by five white males who bashed the Guardsman while repeatedly calling him a baby-killer. Full story here.

Where are all te critical mass posters?

was this a 53 year old, bike messenger wannabe?

Ugh, that Pierce County story makes me sick. The guy pulls up in his SUV, yells "baby killer" as he points a gun at the national guardsman, and helps his buddies beat him up. The stupidity is just too sad.

Call me a cynic, but that National Guard story seems just a little made up and/or staged. Maybe by one of the fat guys at KVI.

I hate to admit it, but I also think the 'National Guardsman Beaten Up' story is fake. It's just too convenient.

Charles Mudede has pointed out that American soldiers serving in Iraq are cowards. The real heros are war protestors like Watada. This incident proves that a National Guardsman can not even defend himself walking down the street. I salute the anti-war protestors who beat him up. We need more courageous people like that. The Isreali army is much more courageous because Israel has a draft.

It's not surprising to read that the bicyclist was riding on the sidewalk. Bicyclists do not give a shit about pedestrians. Try walking across the Fremont or Ballard bridge. Bicyclists refuse to get off of their bikes (or even slow down) when pedestrians are present. They are among the most arrogant of Seattlites.

From the description on The Seattle Times' site, I doubt this guy is the typical "bicyclist" against whom you rail.

I just heard from the prestigious news desk of KING 5 that the bicyclist involved in this accident was released from jail today as the judge did not feel he had adequate reason to hold him. Go figure..........

I figured this crime would lead to a huge backlash against bicyclists. Sigh, the usual knee-jerk reactionism.
