2008 Letter from Oklahoma City
posted by November 4 at 7:34 AM
onUsually on election day, I get to my polling place and walk right in. There are the elderly poll workers, but at 7:30 a.m., it’s just me and them.Today? Packed. Lines out the door. Now, I’m a Democrat and I cast my futile ballot for Obama in a state he has no chance of winning. I live in a fairly mixed-race area of Oklahoma City, but I was so happy to see as many black voters as white and so many people eager to vote, to let their voices be heard, even though we Democrats are so far outnumbered.
It took an hour to get from the parking lot to my cardboard privacy booth, but I would have gladly waited two or three hours. Hell – all day, if it took that long. I can’t wait to tell my children that I voted for the first black POTUS and that it was a turning point for all sorts of freedoms and equalities to come.

Hey, Eli, got a PayPal address? Let us know - I, for one, will more than happy to send a donation. Perhaps you could use it towards going to some sort of school. Then you could think about becoming, oh, I don't know, maybe a journalist or something, as opposed to a junior high level scrapbooker, with absolutely nothing of relevance to add to the discussion, nor even the most basic of editing skills.
Thanks for the morning smile, Greg. I mailed my vote 2 weeks ago, so I apprecite your excitement today.
#1 Go read Drudge or something else rather than insult people. Personally I find these letters interesting and uplifting. You are neither clever nor appreciated.
Honestly, #1, why waste your time with hate and hostility today of all days? Don't come here if you don't like what you are SEEKING OUT TO READ.
peace fucking out.
Yay! I live in OKC but drove to Norman at 6:30am to vote before work.
Longer line than usual, but nothing like what I've been hearing from OKC people like you.
I heard the early voting lines were even longer, but that everyone was more than happy to wait, and everyone's mood was good.
If OK went for Obama I would weep for joy.
I need a drink.
Holy crap, my letter got printed! Also, #5, I'm with you. If Oklahoma goes for Obama, it will be one of the happiest days of my life. As it is, I'll just have to settle for the rest of the country putting him in office.
Just got back from my District Poll on the Eastside of the Seattle Area (North Kirkland). 10 minutes in line, 25 minutes on my ballot. Voted for Obama of course! If you are in the Arts, the Unions, a parent, a worker, a citizen of our world--vote for Obama!
@3 - But I AM disgusted. Does that not count for anything in this supposed "democracy"?
Thought not....funny how that works, eh?
@4 - I'm seeking out the dolts and idiots, and the hilarious crap that spills out of their mouths, much like giant turds from an asshole. I'm funny that way.
And you, my friend(s), do not disappoint.
Fuck you, Greg Elwell, and fuck you #5. Give me back my basketball team.
