Every Child Deserves a Mother and a Father

posted by on November 11 at 8:26 AM

At least no one died—yet.

Indiana state police said that after a mother was arrested for drunken driving, the three relatives who came to pick up her 1-year-old son also had all been drinking.

A state trooper stopped a minivan for speeding early Saturday on U.S. 30 in Schererville in northwestern Indiana. He arrested the 24-year-old woman on a drunken driving charges. The boy’s father arrived later to pick him up, but officers determined he was intoxicated and also arrested him on a drunken driving charge.

Police said the boy’s grandparents then arrived. Both of them also had been drinking, state police said, but the grandmother who was driving was not over the legal limit, so officers escorted them home with the child.

Everybody got home safe! Our first ECDAMAAF post with a happy ending!

It's not really a happy ending since the poor boy has to live with alcoholics for at least 17 more years. Talk about abuse and torture, live with a bunch of frequent drinkers for a few years. It will take its toll.

At least none of them were gay, thank the Lord.

Why even bother posting it, then?

Light rail is obvious solution.

drinking's not illegal. the grandma, who was driving, was NOT over the legal limit. "escorting" them home is MADD-inspired police state hysteria.

Once, again, Ladies and Gentlemen, the Great State of Indiana.

I live near Indiana and often go to it. It might be the only state that's more depressing than Ohio.

@10: I don't know, West Virginia's pretty depressing...

Speaking as the adult child of an alcoholic parent, I can honestly say that this child's nightmare is just beginning, not ending.

Adults? Drinking? On a Friday night?

What a bunch of alcoholics.

Who says they're alcoholics? Yes, they had been drinking and at least two were even drunk, but there's a huge difference between that an alcoholism. Three of the four weren't even necessarily planning to go out - they had to in order to rescue the kid when his mother was arrested. They could have been celebrating something, they could have had a little more wine at dinner than they realized, or whatever. Yes, the mother driving drunk, not good. The father driving drunk, not good - but he wasn't planning on driving before the police called. And sure, maybe he should have called the grandparents, but that doesn't make him an alcoholic necessarily.

It's entirely possible that one or more (maybe even all four) of the adults here are alcoholics. But there's very little, if anything, in this article to indicate that they are.

As long as none of them are gay, who cares.

@15 - Well then they're just REALLY stupid. Because if I had too much wine at dinner, the last thing that would occur to me is to strap my 1-year-old into the vehicle and go SPEEDING down the highway. I would maybe take a cab. And she was arrested early Saturday, do you think they mean early Saturday evening? Or before Saturday morning cartoons?

Moving on to the dad. If my wife has been picked up and ARRESTED for drunk driving, and I know that I have been drinking, then again, the right thing to do to pick up my child from the police station is to take a cab. How drunk do you have to be for the cops to be able to tell your drunk just from you walking in? And how stupid do you have to be to try it?

I'm seeing a pattern, and if it's not alcoholism, it's piss poor judgement - that generally comes from dead brain cells, likely caused by excessive drinking - and child endangerment. Either way, no happy endings here. Send the kid to live with some responsible gay couple.
