2008 Who Will Win Tonight’s Debate?!?!

onOMG! The suspense is killing me—I mean, so much hinges on this! I just wish there was some way to know in advance who won tonight’s presidential debate!
Oh.
Although the fate of tonight’s presidential debate in Mississippi remains very much up in the air, John McCain has apparently already won it—if you believe an Internet ad an astute reader spotted next to this piece in the online edition of the Wall Street Journal this morning.“McCain Wins Debate!” declares the ad which features a headshot of a smiling McCain with an American flag background. Another ad spotted by our eagle-eyed observer featured a quote from McCain campaign manager Rick Davis declaring: “McCain won the debate—hands down.”

He's certainly ambitious.
Maybe the thinking is that he's fucked with our heads so much this week that he has won just by agreeing to attend.
The determining factor is the mental attitude of the ruling class itself. ... From the point of view of our present rulers, therefore, the only genuine dangers are the splitting-off of a new group of able, under-employed, power-hungry people, and the growth of liberalism and scepticism in their own ranks.
The problem, that is to say, is educational. ... and ... the level of popular education is actually declining.
ZOMG! The Republicans have a Time Machine! We're screwed!!

He'd raise him arms in victory, except... he can't.
A hoverboard in every garage!
I used to get excited about presidential debates.
In 2004, when Bush just blinked into the camera like a retarded monkey, with the cognitive part of his brain (such as it is) completely shutting down, I cheered with joy.
And then he still won anyway. This was inconceivable to me. It told me that at least one of the following are true:
1) Joe Sixpack doesn't watch debates
2) Americans are SO stupid and ignorant that intellectual capability is actually a hindrance to getting elected.
3) The election was rigged and our votes don't matter anyway.
This may be a stupid question, but does an official actually declare a debate winner? That would be kind of awesome. I want to see them hold up the hand of the winner Rocky-style, and not have to hear the loser's pundits talking on and on about how their candidate came off better.
@6 At least Nixon could do that, that arm raising raised arm sonofa.
The McCain campaign has been taking lessons from the Chinese, who published messages from their astronauts in space, before the astronauts had even been launched into space.
There is no more truth. The winner will be whomever convinces the most people to believe their version of reality.

He looks like Stephen Hawking.
The real thing I've been worried about is that if McCain lowers the expectations on his performance enough, people will be talking about his "surprisingly good performance despite a lack of time to prepare" and he'll manage to get victory declared if he just manages to not drool too much on camera. Considering how ticked off the media is at this point I'm hoping that doesn't happen after all, and if this gets picked up on enough maybe that will further shoot that possibility in the foot.
God, I just finished Anathem this week, and I cannot handle this kind of alternate-universe bullshit.
@14, McCain has pissed on the media too much for them to say "OH WOW HE BEAT OUR LOW EXPECTATIONS"
What I'm dying to know what excuse they're going to come up with for this gaffe. So often they're caught in a bald face lie (we won't talk Spain sound familiar) and then they give some idiotic excuse. But what could you possibly say here?
Wow, what a maverick!
Dewey defeats Truman!
I wonder if McCain will be wearing a device like Bush did - so the answers could be passed to him. He could have Joe Lieberman whispering in his ear that way.
