La Defense

We see that the best buildings have in their design no humans in mind. All the better if the work is alien, monstrous, indifferent—anything more other than what we are already. A work that strives for the inhuman strives to be closer to the truth, which consistently turns out to be inhuman.

La Defense is an office-building that lies in a small business-park and is partly surrounded by houses. The outline of the building follows the capricious borders of the parcel. The ground-plan of La Defense contains two volumes which are different in length and height.

The real La Defense is of course the office-tower complex just to the west of central Paris.

There are lots of things I would like to say to Charles... and one of those things is we have never met at The Stranger.

In my opinion that makes this one of the terrible deadliest mysteries I have yet un-written...

I here Charles, or should I say I have read recently Charles has been screening or playing or well frankly maybe ascreen plaining.

This, is as Martha says... "a good thing".

"We see that the best buildings have in their design no humans in mind. "

Just as Charles' historical comments have no logic, facts, history or reason in mind.

It is all style. A psuedo-intellectual style. It's the old avant garde game, a game of making up statements with no meaning, or that are actually untrue, and seeing how many readers will silently bow down and go along, afraid to say it's all bullshit.

I.e., the eternal game of the petite bourgeoisie masquerading as intellectual.

@4 - sorry, McSame took over the office.

But good catch on the style, Charles.

"A work that strives for the inhuman strives to be closer to the truth, which consistently turns out to be inhuman."

Uh. . .no?

If A (truth) is not B (human)
And
If C (building) is not B (human)
it does NOT follow that
C (building) is A (truth)

I would argue that a building not designed with humans in mind is actually, at best, sculpture. At worst, a bad building.

@6: Basically.

I don't usually look to see who the author is before I read a post, but I've learned to recognize Mudede Speak within about the first six words, and I typically skip the posts.

Problem is, I love architecture, so I find myself reading these posts. And then getting pissed off, yet again, about wasted moments of my life.
