Sure, She Fed Her Living Son’s Flesh to Cannibals And All…

posted by on June 20 at 13:03 PM

A lot of people are sending me the link to this story, suggesting that it might make a really good “Every Child Deserves a Mother and a Father” post. But there’s no father or step-father or boyfriend in this story, people, so it doesn’t qualify. Perhaps it might make a good “There Is No Morality Without Religion” post—mom appears to have been motivated by her deeply and sincerely held religious beliefs—but for a story to rate an ECDAMAAF post, it really does require one of those opposite-sex couples that the religious right insists all children deserve. Please make a note of it.

You could at least file it under HETERO like you do other stories of abusive/stupid parents with no mention of sexual orientation.

Oh, wait, you did.

there is no morality without religion! dr. laura says so. it must be true.

but rather than anecdotal stuff about religious nuts, how about something somewhat statistical regarding charitable donations, volunteer work, self-reported infidelity rates, etc. for comparing the two groups, religious and non.

ECDAMAAF ... when the rating starts sounding like a European cheese, you really should just leave well enough alone and just not click on the link ...

Animals. Disgusting. Not even a shred of motherly instincts.

You know you want to say it - tastes just like chicken.

Someone had to use that old line.

When challenging the absurd notion that there is no morality without religion, I think pointing out examples of atheists doing good and moral deeds would be more effective than talking about the sins of religious people. When they say there is no morality without religion, they aren't saying that all religious people are good, they're saying that nonbelievers are bad, and that's the notion we need to combat.
