Remember that War We Won in Afghanistan?

The bombing occurred a day after Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates told NATO defense ministers in Brussels that in May, for the first time, the monthly total of American and allied combat deaths in Afghanistan had exceeded the toll in Iraq.—Today’s NYT.
Does it actually say this in the NYT story? I don't see it in there.

Um, no. But I do remember the war we abandoned to invade Iraq.
So Josh Feit can still post stuff here whenever he feels like it?
...the Taliban also just pulled off a massive prison break in Afghanistan - as I recall they sprung over 1000 inmates, of whom 1/3 were estimated to be Taliban/suicide bombers caught before they did the deed/etc (granted, the latter figure is suspect).
Still, though, it sure sounds like things are going swimmingly for the US and it allies there, huh?
Don't worry, all we have to do is start a war with Iran and Afghanistan will be back in the number two spot again.
We shouldn't be there either.

The funny thing is, if we had not occupied Iraq and given those resourses to the Afghani conflict, we would have "won" by now. The Shrub is a fucking idiot.
