Not Important

posted by on June 11 at 10:23 AM

Like the man said

McCain wants to stay in Iraq until no more Americans are getting killed, no matter how long it takes and how many Americans get killed achieving that goal—that is, the goal of not getting any more Americans killed. And once that goal is achieved, we’ll stay.

If more troops are getting killed, we stay. If fewer troops are getting killed, we stay. If the same number of troops are getting killed, we stay.

Other than that, we can leave any time we like.

What's so hard about this? Get the fuck out of there now, and nobody gets killed. You don't have to be a genius to figure that out.

Does anyone really want this campaign at all? Is there anything that McCain can do in the next 5 months to make you vote for him? Do you think there's anything Obama can do to change the minds of deluded McCain voters? Can't we just do this now and let poor McCain spend some of his retirement fund before he croaks?

I never said that bringing the troops home wasn't important. Never.

That video cut off in an awkward place; what did McCain say next?

Plus, if you look at a CNN Money analysis, he wants to save those making more than $100 million lots of taxes, while penalizing the other 99.9 percent of America with his tax plans.

Bush is still planning to bomb Iran - and McCain is all gung ho for Yet Another War Of Lies ...

I saw a McCain ad out here in Ohio where McCain stated, verbatim, "I hate war."
I just don't understand how this man in front of us is John McCain. A few years ago I might have even been able to consider a vote for him over Schucky Munster long-face what's-his-name, but it's like he's given up any integrity for the sake of sticking to party lines now that he's up-front.
Not like he was a complete golden boy before, but Jesus.

If I evaluated candidates soley on their verbal gaffes that are hyperextraploated out-of-context by the media I'd be a very silly citizen.

@10 Mike...thanks! I had actually found that shortly after posting my comment, but I appreciate your searching for it and linking it here.

Actually, I think taking that quote out of context is misleading, given the point he makes just after (we have troops in many other places, it's the casualties that are the problem).

Of course this ignores the number of troops involved and the fact that staying there will NOT help reduce the casualties, quite the opposite, so he's still completely wrong.

But I do think taking quotes out of context to make them look worse is Bad. (I mean, knowing the context I can see what McCain means and why he's wrong, but before looking at the clip I thought he'd just said "who cares about the soldiers ?")
(though you could argue that that's what his policies come down to I guess. But it's still not what he was saying)

So when all the Americans are killed, and there are no more Americans to be killed, then there will be no more Americans being killed, so we will have won!?

It's ok if Iraqi's get killed and not Americans because they aren't really human anyway.

The casualties are not the only problem. The cost is also a problem. The fundamental idea that we are an empire and that we naturally ought to have troops permanently stationed anywhere and everywhere is a huge problem. Especially for the people whose countries we are occupying.

In other news, McCain will continue wearing Depends until his pants don't get wet when he pees himself.

@19 - yeah, but when you're like McCain, the beauty of Alzheimer's is never remembering you're wearing Depends ...

I'm not a McCain supporter, but in all fairness to the man, this is not his quote. This is the opinion of a man who wrote an article on an interview and debate he saw McCain take part of.

So if you have issues with what was said, take it up with Hendrik Hertzberg, who is the author of that convoluted statement.
