Does This Man Set Off Your Gaydar?

posted by on March 24 at 14:06 PM

Meet the governor of Florida, Charlie Crist…

John McCain is allegedly vetting the very single, very tan, and very natty Crist as a possible VP choice. Which may have something to do with all the stories popping up in the news lately about how very thoroughly Crist—single, tan, natty—digs the ladies. Crist loves ‘em, can’t get enough of ‘em. Never married one, not seen out with any. But… women love him. And women wouldn’t dig Crist if he were gay, right? I mean, come on—since when do straight women and gay men get along?

Or… gee… maybe John McCain is a Democratic operative after all.

Mr. Poe already has him on his List.

If he ain't gay, then I have to re-calibrate my gaydar...

If he ain't gay, Mr. Poe is going to be very sad.

If he ain't gay, well I don't have anything else...

Doesn't he mean "From whom much is given, much is expected", or is he saying that the rich expect to get richer?

Posted by Chris | March 24, 2008 2:16 PM

The most ludicrous claim here isn't that he's straight; it's that in the video he says that the nation looks to Florida to lead.

She is as nelly as a clutch purse on Tony night!

Posted by Davidmonger | March 24, 2008 2:18 PM

Can't we keep this discussion until after he's clinched the nomination? Because wow.

Winston Churchill (Church for short)

Age: unknown

Hometown: Ludlow, ME

Died: November 24, 1983?

Incident: After being run over, Church was buried in the Pet Sematary, and was resurrected, but now he smells really bad.

At least he's not as gay as a certain US Senator from South Carolina ...

Posted by Will in Seattle | March 24, 2008 2:30 PM

Somewhere between Leslie Nielsen and Dave Reichert.

And yeah, the gaydar-o-meter needle is pegged.

Posted by Karlheinz Arschbomber | March 24, 2008 2:33 PM

A friend of mine in Florida said the guy is gay. Has a lot to do with sleeping with one of the local "rent boys" in Ft Lauderdale.

You know, if the Stranger can pony up the money to send Charles to Italy for a story, they could certainly cough up the $300 - $400 to send Mr. Poe to Talahassee as "special correspondent."

I'm sure he could get to the bottom of this very timely issue.

Posted by NapoleonXIV | March 24, 2008 2:37 PM

Well, at least he's not a Deke like the current idiot-in-chief. Note the one-year marriage. Check Item #7 further down in the "other articles" where a woman at a press conference flat out asks him about his orientation.

"I'm sure he could get to the bottom of this very timely issue."

Heh heh - "bottom" = heh heh.

Katie, bar the doors! Mr. Poe is in hot pursuit!

Posted by Spoogie | March 24, 2008 3:02 PM

@16, nevermind. Put on your bifocals next time and read more than just the signature. Or maybe Mr. Poe's shopping cart is becoming cliché.

Posted by Spoogie | March 24, 2008 3:05 PM

He's Gay. We're just not supposed to know it, shhhhh.

Posted by Sargon Bighorn | March 24, 2008 3:09 PM

Clearly he's going for gay republican voters.

Posted by monkey | March 24, 2008 3:10 PM

Shhhh!! Let McCain make the announcement first. Let him spend a few weeks talking up his running mate to conservative voters everywhere and THEN throw a Mr. Poe (and video camera) into the beautiful embrace of Crist's wide stance.

Posted by city kitty | March 24, 2008 3:22 PM

where's the taunting from mccain/crist08?

let's hear how that ticket will beat obama/richardson like a drum!

Posted by max solomon | March 24, 2008 3:23 PM

"You feel it?" (flirty look to the lacrosse-playing Young Republican in the front row)

Posted by Bub | March 24, 2008 3:25 PM

So what if he's gay? (I'd guess he is.) McCain is guaranteed to win the general with Crist on the ticket. The youth, who don't like Hillary, will gladly flock to Crist.

Posted by McCain/Crist '08! | March 24, 2008 3:25 PM

Beware of tanned politicians from Florida... they may do something seedy Mark Foley style...

I'm pretty sure he's the clone of Bob Barker.

Posted by Dave Coffman | March 24, 2008 3:42 PM

OMG I would totally let him fuck my shit to dripping fudge.

Why are so many people talking about me? Apparently I announce myself like a rock concert in Boise, ID.

Posted by Mr. Poe | March 24, 2008 3:49 PM

Shhh! We're trying to get the Stranger to pick up the tab for your Come to Crist tour.

Posted by NapoleonXIV | March 24, 2008 3:53 PM

Straight men don't do that schmaltzy Vegas lounge lizard thing this well, nor do they have such...aerobic eyebrows.

I fact, he kind of resembles Stuart Smalley with better diction.

Posted by Wolf | March 24, 2008 3:58 PM

Chill. I'm going stealth..

Posted by Mr. Poe | March 24, 2008 3:59 PM

'k Mr. Stealth. Just be prepared for a big, Coppertoned power bottom when you get there.

Posted by NapoleonXIV | March 24, 2008 4:10 PM

Gay? I don't know about gay. But with a name like Crist he's gotta be Jewish.

Posted by purtyboy | March 24, 2008 4:14 PM

"you ever seen a grown man naked?"

Posted by brandon | March 24, 2008 4:16 PM

He actually didn't set my gaydar off at all. Dan, sometimes I think you're obsessed with closeted gay republicans.

Posted by DW | March 24, 2008 10:28 PM

Charlie Crist won't get the VP nod. The Republicans here hate him, so he won't even secure Florida for them in the general election.

Posted by Chris in Tampa | March 24, 2008 11:22 PM

The local paper actually just ran an article on the many women of Gov. Charlie -

Posted by Dave | March 25, 2008 7:20 AM

@34, she's a fag hag.

Posted by Spoogie | March 25, 2008 8:07 AM

@ Napoleon --

Thanks for the cornflakes through my nose...

Posted by It's Mark Mitchell | March 25, 2008 9:48 AM

Miss Crist shall not be the Republican nominee. All this speculation is just to keep discussion of the republicans in the news. I would expect someone that would add something to the ticket, attracting the far right of the party, offsetting some democratic advatages and suitable to lead when the old man dies.

I predict Condoleeza Rice will be the VP nominee.
