Today in BDSM News

posted by on February 8 at 16:18 PM

It’s dangerous to leave a tied-up person alone—every kinkster knows that—and you would think that the staff of New York City’s legendary Nutcracker Suite, a world-famous domination studio, would know better than to leave a tied-up client alone.

An unidentified patron of a Midtown S&M club who was bound and suspended from a ceiling while wearing women’s high heels and a neck choker was hospitalized in critical condition Friday, police sources said. While an accident is the most likely cause, police said they are investigating whether he was the victim of a crime….

The man was found about 1:30 a.m. inside the East 33rd Street club known as Nutcracker Suite and Artistic Innovation, wearing his pants but not carrying any identification, police said…. Detectives are trying to determine how long the man was left alone once tied up, sources said. He was discovered in apparent respiratory distress after a club worker checked on him as he was suspended from the ceiling and noticed that his hands looked blue, a police source said.

The law enforcement source said that the club’s staffers were cooperating with the police and told investigators that they had checked on the man in regular intervals after he had been bound and suspended.

Perhaps you can leave someone alone—briefly, and so long as they’re within earshot—if your bondage partner is simply tied to a bed, or comfortably strapped to a bondage board, or locked in a cage. Your “victim” can feel isolated and helpless, if that’s what turns ‘em on, and you can be back in a flash if he or she starts to panic and call out or, you know, if there’s a sudden and unexpected earthquake or electrical fire. But it’s absolutely nuts to leave someone alone in suspension bondage.

The very fact that someone would agree to be left alone in suspension bondage is evidence for their stupidity.

Greg - Well, he was bound, maybe he didn't agree.

They should shut that place down. People that are into that sort of thing are evil and not the kind of people that you would want to associate with.

Raindrop, they should be shut down alright, but only because they're incompetent, not because they're "evil." There are a whole lot of people who think gay bars are "evil" too. Guess, by your logic, they should be shut down too. Learn some tolerance, man. Your idea of "evil" may be somebody else's idea of a good time. And vice versa.

I'm surprised to see a such a clueless comment around these parts... raindrop, have you ever read The Stranger before?

Just shows the peril of using "Get the fuck out of here" as your Safe Word.

The place shouldn't be shut down, but the incident should be investigated. It does sound like the domme wasn't managing the risks of the suspension wisely. Even if the man's thrill was to be left alone while bound that way, it can be done safely with a blindfold and earplugs to make him feel alone, all while still supervising the scene.

Suspensions of any kind involve higher risks, but many people who do a lot of them get a bit jaded and stop thinking about what could happen during an emergency or an accident.

Let's hope the gentleman recovers quickly, as it would be useful to hear what happened from his perspective.

There is nothing "evil" about BDSM. BDSM should be viewed like a sporting activity where there are risks involved, and those risks needed to be managed responsibly. That doesn't mean people shouldn't do it.

You see, the tie-em-up-and-leave-em approach could be used by couples who differ in their support for political candidates and one of whom who justs want to ensure their partner doesn't make it to caucus for Hillary...

What? Alright then, without the suspension bondage part then...

Just sayin' :)

The place -should- be shut down, for a multitude of reasons. I used to work there. This incident happened on the midnight-6am shift, which is managed by a sleazy guy who brings in his creepy friends as clients. The noon-6pm and 6pm-midnight shifts are managed by mistresses, and have much more stringent rules. I'm appalled that this happened, but I'm not at all surprised that it happened on the night shift, because a lot of those girls are basically just strippers with whips and have no real BDSM experience.
