News Guilty Verdict In Violent University District Arrest
posted by February 13 at 11:36 AM
onAfter several days of deliberations, a jury has found Mark Hays guilty of obstruction and assaulting an officer during an incident in the University District last November. Hays could face one to three months in jail.
Court records do not indicate whether Hays’ attorney was allowed to submit video of Hays’ violent arrest—captured by a patrol car’s camera— during trial.

Hays is HOT!
All this from Jay walking? I'm not sure who is the dumber player in this drama.
Did his lawyer suck?
Still waiting for Slog to acknowledge the string of violent robberies and beatings in the U District this past month.
Everybody wish him good luck in the upcoming civil trial against the cops that beat him.

Gee… Do you suppose that its possible that his attorney determined that the tape would only incriminate his client further and thus never requested it?... (Or are we obligated to assume this punk is innocent even after being found guilty by a jury of his peers?...)
A “Reporter” would probably contact his attorney and ask if he attempted to submit the video or not.
DUR! Thanks, YGBKM. I NEVER would have thought of THAT!
Seriously, this guy must've had a crappy lawyer. This incident happened less than 3 months ago. Did he/she do any discovery or interviews with the cops or bystanders?
I can tell you that the video was played for the jury multiple times. There was only witness that came forward besides the suspects and added nothing to the night's events besides what was on the video already. Bottom line is: if you witness something like this and are bothered by it--COME FORWARD AND TESTIFY! The fact that there were apparent "witnesses" to the event and no one came forward with a statement ruined Hays' case.
i was dismissed from the jury during voir dire. fwiw, his lawyer was pretty young and admitted to the bar in the last 3 years (i looked it up). the prosecutor seemed pretty experienced and polished.
Wait -- you mean, the Stranger was wrong about a "police brutality" case again? Shocking.
I think if you end up getting charged with assaulting a cop, the last thing you want to do is get the Stranger on the case. At that point it's pretty much guaranteed you'll get convicted.
