Tomorrow: Our Endorsement

posted by on January 29 at 10:30 AM

Tomorrow’s print edition features our endorsement in the Democratic race for the Presidential nomination. We wanted to hit before Super Tuesday so that our endorsement has an impact beyond Seattle’s 43rd District, of course.

I’m not going to say who we chose (and despite his attempts to get through, we did not take Bill Clinton’s call.)

Two weary Stranger Election Control Board members stayed here until Midnight on Friday night hammering it out (and offing a 6-pack of Corona Light).

I’m proud to say, the word “narrative” does not appear in our endorsement. Here some words and phrases that do:

“If we were Republicans”

“goose bumps”

“nearly 30%”

“The SECB is not interested in pandering”

“Shhh—don’t tell the Republicans.”

“Senator Bernie Sanders’s (VT-Socialist?)”

“This strategy is disarming, and it just might work.”

“…an embarrassing 58%…”

“shrink-wrapped”

“the one to represent our interests”

“either a dilettante or a schizophrenic”

Gee... I wonder who it will be.

WTF?!? Corona Light?

Corona Light? What a bunch of pansies....

Corona Light is not a winter beer.

I agree. Three Corona Lights apiece does not make a political marathon. Does that even have alcohol in it? Sure they weren't Kalibers? Or Diet Cokes with Lime (a pretty refreshing beverage, let it be said)?

Dilettante or schizophrenic -- is that Giuliani? He's the crazy one; he even makes Ron Paul look rational. Hey, speaking of Ron, where did all the Paulistas go? That TNR story seems to have buried them, and him (though Klan opinions will probably help in Florida).

I can only imagine the three main campaigns are shut down today praying to their God(s) awaiting this oracle to speak.

And..for the record Corona Light is the BEST beer you can buy in Seattle. (Much like Linus and the Great Pumpkin, I am still waiting for Modelo Light to show up)

I have a feeling the corona reference was meant to be a joke.

Yeah this will be a real shocker. Cough cough cough Obama cough.

I can't wait for all the whiney ECB posts tomorrow after this comes out.

Oh and why has she not posted anything about Hillary's shameless powergrab to seat the MI and FL delegates at the convention?

Does she feel she would be betraying NOW by pointing out that Hillary is not the female jesus?

Although Obama may actually be the black jesus.

$5 says they endorse them both.

@11 I'll take that bet. and double it.

josh,

will you please ask ed murray, who got appropriately uppity about hutcherson's speech at mt. si, why he is endorsing obama, who toured SC with an openly homophobic speaker, and gave no excuse or apoplogy for it.

and ask him if he doesn't feel pandered to when obama plays both sides.

thanks!

So, how pissed is ECB, anyway?

Try not to be mean to her today, guys ...

oh, and I owe you a Manny's, Erica.

FYI, Hillary was endorsed by Maxine Waters today. Not trying to be snarky, just providing the headline.

I wouldn't be so sure, people. Josh was a Clinton supporter quite recently. And Erica, of course. Annie Wagner supports Obama but she's film, not news; does she get to vote? I await this result with bated breath.

On the Republican side, they're going with Tom Tancredo, I'm sure of it.

Perhaps ECB can put up a cranky, bitter dissenting opinion, playing the Scalia to your Kennedy.

why even bother endorsing a repukelican?

unless you choose Ron Paul. that would be funny.

@16: I'm a member of the Stranger Election Control Board and always have been.

I eagerly await your instruction as it wouldn't be Seattle-politic to do anything without an outsider's opinion, point, directive, input, and/or fervent admonition. Also docilely awaiting instructions on when (or whether) to bathe, recycle, drink, smoke, diet, have children, or embrace any man's member or his religious hallucinations. Hurry!

Annie:

Robert Redford in "The Candidate" or John Travolta in "Primary Colors"?

Joan Allen in "The Contender" or Chris Rock in "Head of State"?

Choose one from each category, compare and contrast. Embrace and lionize or dismiss and trivialize at will.

Post results with peroration.

I agree with @18. It would be funny.

The Stranger will endorse.....

Jeb Bartlett! "Bartlett for America!"

I love you guys, but:

We wanted to hit before Super Tuesday so that our endorsement has an impact beyond Seattle’s 43rd District, of course.

Really. Looking to corner the Omaha homophobic troll vote?

Note to SEC: Won't count unless his name is correctly spelled on the ballot, viz: JED BARTLET...

How did Josiah Edward Bartlet get the nickname "Jed"?

Jed is from the first letter of the first name and the first two letters of his middle name.

@26, spelling aside, let's just hope no medical issues come up.....

His middle name was Edward though? I never knew that.

Annie @19: I apologize for not knowing that and for suggesting otherwise.
