How Did This Happen on Ken Hutcherson’s Watch?

posted by on January 23 at 14:30 PM

Washington state has the faggiest state legislature in the whole faggy country.

The Washington state Legislature has more openly gay lawmakers than any other state in the country, edging out California after a new young representative was appointed to the statehouse this year.

Marko Liias, a 26-year-old Democrat from Mukilteo, started the legislative session earlier this month, replacing former Rep. Brian Sullivan, who left the Legislature for the Snohomish County Council. Liias’ arrival gives Washington six openly gay lawmakers, ahead of California’s five.

Some of California’s openly gay lawmakers are lesbians, while all of Washington state’s openly gay lawmakers are gay men. So Ken won’t think the state has totally gone to hell. But still.

Thank you Dan. I can always rely on you for the latest Homo-erotic and Homo-cratic news!

How does Washington having only openly gay men make it less likely that Hutcherson "won’t think the state has totally gone to hell"? Not that I give a shit either way, but usually lesbians are more tolerated in society, even very strict societies, were as gay men are seen as perverted demons from hell intent on anally raping innocent children. Does Hutcherson have some extra hatred for the lesbos? Because the usual view is more gay men = more hell on earth.

and if you count the closet cases, the numbers would blow the roofs off of all the adult book stores in Olympia.

Is it just me, or does the Seattle Times article Dan linked to have an awesomely hilarious headline?

"State Legislature has largest gay caucus in U.S."

I'm sorry, I don't get it.

Why is this news?

How is this different from Red States where most of the legislature are closeted?

So, they're out. Yeah? And?

Posted by Will in Seattle | January 23, 2008 3:30 PM

This is extremely important, Will! The reason there is increasing support for bills that support the LGBT community isn't just increasing numbers of Dems in Olympia.

A key factor in support for things like the anti-discrimination bill, the Domestic Partnerships registry, and eventually equality in marriage, is that their colleagues can see up close and personal what the lives and gay men and their relationships are like.

It's no more or less important than nominating a Black man or a Woman to run for President.

The article says that New Hampshire is actually gayer since they have seven gay legislators, but considering New Hampshire's legislature is so massive it contains virtually every citizen, I think it's safe to say we have the gayest legislature in the nation. Seven out of over 400 is a lot less impressive than six out of ~150.

Oh, yeah, sure, Mickymse, but then you'd have to convince me that closeted gay legislators in Red States tend to vote down pro-gay legislation.

I mean, wouldn't that be self-loathing of the highest order?

Next thing you know you'll tell me our Pres is closeted ...

Umm. Never mind.

Let's elect some lesbos to the leg!

Of course we have lots of openly gay legislators. It's one of the worst jobs in the world. The only relief from the boredom is the incessant whining of constituents, with low pay and long hours to boot. It's basically the same as being a flight attendant, without the tin can surrounding, but also without the job security or travel. And it's in Olympia. Oh, and every two years you get to go beg for money for months on end. Pat yourselves on the back when you have more openly gay CEOs.

No one will probably read this now but since no one answered the question @ 3 I think Dan meant that Mister Ken hates lezzies in power means they are where he thinks they should be, in the kitchen and having marital sex whenever her husband wants to.
