Clinton/Edwards 08?

posted by on January 22 at 10:16 AM

From CNN:

What were they talking about?

Hillary Clinton and John Edwards met privately backstage following a very contentious Democratic presidential debate in this coastal city, sources with both campaigns confirm to CNN.

The meeting took place in the Edwards campaign green room.

I can’t imagine Edwards would take the VP slot again… so what were they talking about?

Cabinet post for delegate swap.

Something evil-bad, no doubt.

Actually, I can very much see Edwards doing VP duty again.

Unless he pulls off a miracle on Super Duper whatever Tuesday, he's done. It is looking more and more like a Hillary/Obama run off. Edwards is in a position to play kingmaker. He would make a good VP choice for either Hillary or Obama, and if he seriously threw his weight behind either of them, it would seal the deal. He is in the perfect position, right now, to make the best deal possible.

This is weird. Why would he approach Clinton though? What about all his attacks on her? Doesn't he prefer Obama?

Were cigar's involved? Just asking cuz Bill has that comming.

Edwards - "So, next year when you're the President and I'm a widow... whadda say?"

Posted by brad | January 22, 2008 10:52 AM

Why not Edwards as a VP? He sure as fuck isn't going to be elected as President.

Posted by Mahtli69 | January 22, 2008 10:53 AM

I know they were talking about this:

What else is there to discuss??

Posted by patrick | January 22, 2008 10:58 AM

Maybe Edwards will be the kingmaker. Clinton and Obama are willing to talk to him but not to each other.

brad @ 8 -- so not funny. and it's 'widower'.

i can't imagine a clinton/edwards ticket, but swallowing his pride and being vp to either of them would prolong his political career and make him the presumed democratic nominee in 2016.... he's still young. he better be considering it.

Posted by Judith | January 22, 2008 11:03 AM

brad@8 wins. Even though it's "widower".

edwards won't play the VP role with someone he disagrees with again...

he would make a damn good Attorney General.

Posted by ghostlawns | January 22, 2008 11:09 AM

I think he was being nice and trying to let her down gently over his eventual nomination as VP to President Obama.

@14 Ding!

Posted by NaFun | January 22, 2008 11:29 AM

edwards is a spoiler. he doesnt have a shot at winning based on current voting patterns and yet he wont back out of the race because of what? stupid fucks that like his "bread and circuses" message?

Posted by Bellevue Ave | January 22, 2008 11:49 AM

He can't back out - he's the only white male on the Dem side

Posted by Cat in Chicago | January 22, 2008 12:23 PM

I've been saying for a couple of weeks that I want Edwards as AG.

I don't think he's making deals with Clinton. It's a true race right now, and neither her, nor Obama are in the lead. 2/5 will decide a lot.

Posted by brad | January 22, 2008 12:47 PM

Poor guy's got whimpy hair; clearly Edwards was inquiring as to what product Hillary uses to get that presidential lift.

Posted by Rumor Mill | January 22, 2008 1:18 PM

The meeting was about who he will endorse... and what's in it for him.

Posted by Mrs. Y | January 22, 2008 2:15 PM

I agree with the AG posts -- My buess is Edwards will be AG for Clinton or Obama, whoever wins.

Posted by amocat | January 22, 2008 2:55 PM

My guess would be Edwards is either trying to call for civility and asked Hillary to muzzle the big dog, or he's setting up to drop out and trying to figure the best time to do so to give her a boost. A well time swap of his constituents to her would be a hell of a boost if it was timed right. I can't imagine him taking VP, but AG or White house counsel might be a good choice. He might even be shooting for the judiciary.

I can't see him supporting Obama given Kerry's endorsement there though. Too much bad blood left.

Supposedly Hillary has had talks with both Obama and Edwards behind the scenes, so at this point, I think they're making more of the meeting than needs to be made of.

I believe that considering his wife's terminal illness, Edwards will probably not take a post in a Obama or Clinton administration if offered and will in all probability spend more time with the wife and family and continue his anti-poverty work.
