No This Weekend at the Movies

posted by on December 14 at 16:46 PM

If you’re waiting for This Weekend at the Movies, I’m sorry. My browser ate my lengthy post. I am so depressed.

Here’s On Screen. It’s really long, and includes reviews of the following movies: Juno (good), The Kite Runner (bad), I Am Legend (good), Starting Out in the Evening (good), Goodbye Bafana (bad), The Walker (bad), The Amateurs (sexist and bad), The Perfect Holiday (kind of gross), Romance & Cigarettes (bad). Over here is Alvin and the Chipmunks.

Party 1, Party 2, and tonight: Robert Horton’s Critics Wrap 2007, featuring our very own Andrew Wright.

I Am Legend was terrible. I hated The Kite Runner, they cut too much out of it. I want to see Juno and Romance & Cigarettes.

You compose and edit directly in your web browser? You do realize that's just wrong don't you?

One thing that I always try to do when posting things in web forms is to select and copy all your text right before you hit the submit button. That way if anything goes wrong you can just paste in the post again. This habit has saved me numerous times.

wait really? i am legend is good?

a friend of mine wants me to see that with him, should i? or am i going to be bored out of my gourd?

I realize this qualifies me as one of the certifiably insane--hey, we're a fun crowd--but I liked Romance & Cigarettes. Seriously. Has its share of problems, but John Turturro poured his heart into this Bukowski-inspired thing, and it shows. I agree with Mr. Kiley that a few cast members are wasted, like Amy Sedaris and Mary-Louise Parker, but James Gandolfini is fan-fucking-tastic.

All over the internets are reaaally annoying pop ups of " I am Legend". so I won't be seeing that. HOWEVER. the chipmunks movie? oh. yes. esp. if we can start a 'Munks slog fan club.natch.

Lindy West is a thoroughly wonderful person and her reviews are hilarious.

I fucking loved 'Juno'. I came out of the screening like some crazed convert. It's nice that now everyone else will be able to understand my Ellen Page and Michael Cera zealotry.

Lindy West is teh God.

And Iran's capital is teh ran

(persian: استان تهران, transliteration)

It's too bad that Legend's effects suck so bad. I've come to the conclusion that only WETA workshop should be allowed to do CGI anymore. Everyone else is either too lazy or too obsessed with making everything CG -- thus making the effects look cartoonish (George Lucas, I'm looking at you).

Nancy's ex, a rapper or something, goes by the name J. JIZZY. He has a clothing line called "Jizzy Gear." Jizzy. Gear. Excuse me, man. Look at your gear. Your gear is covered with jizz. Why did you buy that gear? IT'S JIZZY GEAR! This Christmas, the perfect man just happens to be—eeeeeeeeeew! SANTA, I THINK YOU GOT SOMETHING ON YOUR GEAR.

I think I'll stop watching movies altogether and just read Lindy West's reviews of them instead. The actual movie couldn't measure up.

Was anyone shocked when Belle & Sebastian was included in the soundtrack for Juno? Didnt think so.

Parody coming soon: "Not Another Made for 30-Something Aging Hipsters Who Get Romantic For Nerdy Characters Wannabe A Teen Movie"

ok. i thought it was kinda cute.
