C.I.A Destroys Tapes

posted by on December 6 at 14:16 PM

I wish, like in Venezuela, we got to vote on our government’s expansion of its powers.

Anyway, the latest from the Bush era.

The C.I.A. said today that the decision to destroy the tapes had been made “within the C.I.A. itself” and were destroyed to protect the safety of undercover officers and because they no longer had intelligence value. The agency was headed at the time by Porter J. Goss. Through a spokeswoman, Mr. Goss refused to comment this afternoon on the destruction of the tapes.

The existence and subsequent destruction of the tapes is likely to reignite the debate over the use of severe interrogation techniques on terror suspects, and raises questions about whether C.I.A. officials withheld information from the courts and from the presidentially-appointed Sept. 11 commission about aspects of the program.

This is called obstruction of justice, especially if they did it knowing they are violating US Federal Laws in these tapes. They may put up lame excuses, but it seemed obviously that they destroyed the tapes because they were incriminating. If they were so worried about revealing agent information and intelligence, they can put it in a secure area, or label it at a certain security clearance level.

Josh, we are supposed to be able to vote on those expansions....supposed to.

I am really thinking it is time for ARMED REVOLT. Seriously, Congress is not doing anything to stop all of this. And our founders expected that if we ended up like this WE WOULD RISE IN REVOLT.

"were destroyed to protect the safety of undercover officers"

I wonder how Valerie Plame would feel about that

@2

I wonder what our founders would think about a government that could automatically sense someone talking about an armed revolt (via data monitoring), then observing and monitoring the individual that made such a threat (such as yourself)

I bet they would be really sad about the outcome of the great experiment =/

@4, you are right, I LOVE my government. We all LOVE our government and we do not want to see ANYTHING change. Right gang? As a matter of fact, we want them to even take MORE power! That is the only way we can be free!

Am I the last person on earth to noticed that "Mister" Hayden is still wearing his uniform? And that Yahoo nonetheless refers to him as "Mr"? I guess having a "General" in charge of the CIA would make us look too much like the Superpower-Banana-Republic that we are...

@ nabob, be careful with what you are saying.... "Mr.Hayden" is watching you right now.

"If tapes were destroyed, he said, 'it’s a big deal, it’s a very big deal,' because it could amount to obstruction of justice to withhold evidence being sought in criminal or fact-finding investigations.

Uh, no it's not. It's not a "big deal" at all since no one is ever held accountable for anything.

@ Just Me,

Sorry, but I don't see today's Duhmericans putting down their cell phones, Diet Cokes and onion rings long enough for a revolution.

We'll have to resort to sorcery--it's the only way!

Name calling and guns. This conversation sounds like it needs a nap. The article at hand is about a cover up of something we will more than like never find out about. The government was elected by all of us. If you want a change from "politics as usual" maybe you should stop acting like a bunch of babies (oh i'm gonna get a gun -- dummy dummy libs) AND MAN UP! Take some responsibility for this mess.

Some people like name calling and they think that is political discourse. Some people are proud of being ignorant about political issues. Some people are just plan burnt out on a government who doesn't listen to it's people. I wonder if there is even anybody who left a comment here talking to their elected representative.

Sarcasm comes off as sounding semi-retarded on the internet. Hasn't anyone figured that out yet?
