Told ya so

posted by on November 18 at 20:31 PM

Seahawks win! Cedric Benson’s best two runs of the year happened in the first few minutes, and after that it was all Seahawks.

Nonetheless, it was pretty pleasant. The folks up in the very last row were very nice to the nephew and myself. The yahoos in front of us who were drinking smuggled-in plastic bottles of some variety of fortified wine didn’t get too profane until some braver souls in the next section started a bit of a verbal fisticuff (a ‘“word-i-cuff” I guess) with a bulky mustachioed Bears fan. Then I learned that we were at “Motherfucking Qwest field, man!”). No actual punches were thrown, this being the very polite Pacific Northwest.

But man, it was loud. This whole 12th man thing really works, as the Bears were taken out of a couple of potential good drives by false start penalties. If I recall, I had the over-under on False Start Penalties at 3.5, and I oughta be working in Vegas, since it came in at 4, so I’d had most of you on the hook. What impressed me, though, was not just the penalties, but when they happened: three out of four were in the fourth quarter, when the game was actually on the line. The fans made the most noise when it would matter most.

So, have fun winning the NFC Worst and then good luck in the playoffs. See you next year at Safeco…

Chicago Sports Talk radio is already calling for Kyle Orton to start as the Bear's Quarterback. Since I'm just south of the cheddar curtain, I'm back to being a Packers (fair weather) fan.

is the cheddar curtain the border of Wisconsin and Illinois?

@2
Never seen the term before, but it's the border between Illinois and Wisconsin. Cheeseheads live to the north, so the boundary would be the Cheddar Curtain, with FIBs (Fucking Illinois Bastards) to the south, and border-dwellers like Big_K able to root for either the Bears or the Packers depending on how their curds have cooled. One of the many nonsensical subject positions we place ourselves in.

Yes, it's the line between where K-Mart sells Bears merchandise and where it sells Packers merchandise. I live on the Bears side but work partly (and have lots of clients) on the Packers side, so my loyalty blows like the wind.

Don't youze guys out there insult Oregon and Oregon insult Washington?

I grew up in green bay, wi, and I've never heard of the cheddar curtain. Are you in janesville or something Big_K?

FIBS? Very familiar.

oh and as to your question, the only thing that even KIND OF comes CLOSE to the packers/bears rivalry out here is between uw and washington state.

but in general seattle fans are very fair weather as a whole, and tend to not appreciate their teams. they tend to be overly pessimistic. my own read is that they're traumatized from a long history of shitty teams. which isn't an excuse, because green bay always supported the packers, even when they were bad.

1-7: the fact that these responses are 100% Packers/Bears and haven't mentioned the SeaHags is evidence enough that Northwesterners really don't take their football seriously. Tho this is the Slog...

Having lived in Boston, Florida, Berlin and a few other places, I haven't found an outer boundary to the cheddar curtain yet. Seen #4 jerseys on the S-Bahn worn by germans with no idea where green bay is.

I loved the old school Seattle rock 12th Man flag-raising. Jerry Cantrell and Matt Cameron... they come to snuff the Rexster.
