My mom said we would never have a President as corrupt as Nixon. MAN was she wrong wrong wrong
@1 - true. very sadly true.
Nixon resigned on August 8th. Not the 9th.
its my 26th b-day!! but i know that doesn't count =*(
O. I could swear it was the 8th. Huh. My bad. So much for remembering that dissertation.
And we’re still hearing about the psycho shit that Nixon pulled even now, over 30 years later.
We’ll be hearing about Bush II for the rest of our lives as people discover more and more about horrors that we currently don’t even know about.
And today no one is willing to make the same statement as Cato's mom. We WILL have another president even more corrupt than Nixon and Bush. I think the government will continue to become more and more corrupt.
But hey, when I'm 72 a giant comet is going to smash into the Earth so.. eh, whatever.
But he left town (it was for real) on the 9th.
That pic is from the 9th.
Bah! The real cats are those turning 35 on November 7th. That is when the country reelected Nixon! We asked him BACK! Beware of the green eyed monster josh...
As much as the self-loathing Nixon left a bad taste in most peoples' mouths (double-entendre that, Savage!), he at least wisely declared victory and went home to lick his wounds - shod in his Oxfords - on the beaches of San Clemente. Despairingly, Bush has neither the wisdom nor the inclination to go that route, and the rest of us must reap his shameless whirlwind.
Whew. Holy shit, I just endured a web conference, and all I could think about was how in God's name I locked the 8th in my brain.
Specifically, Nixon's resignation address occurred on the 8th but was effective "at noon tomorrow," that is, the 9th.
I was born on the same day that Karol Józef Wojtyła became Pope John Paul II.
There is an old Vulcan proverb: only Nixon could go to China.
I'm so tired of that trite analysis.
The reason Nixon could go to China is cuz we were at war with Soviet satellite North Vietnam. China hated the Soviets and the N. Vietnamese. Any President waging a war against Vietnam could have gone to China.
Josh, methinks you're forgetting how strong anticommunism was in America, and how little Americans cared about the differences between the USSR, China, Viet Nam, Cuba, and North Korea were. It's not impossible that someone without Nixon's anticommunist credentials could have normalized relations with the PRC but it's pretty unlikely.
"oh my gosh...I was wrong...they're gonna hate me! they think I'm stupid! THE STRANGER IS NEVER GOING TO TAKE ME TO THE PROM NOW"
fan boy. hehehe
No. I just have a problemo with getting actual facts wrong. When I inform someone they're wrong about something, and it turns out they aren't, the logical thing to do would be admit it.
For your information, everybody at the Stranger thinks I'm stupid. I'm okay with that. It is good.
