Bollywood Poacher

onThe reason why the Bollywood star Salman Khan is going to jail for five years?
Not for this:
[A] 2002 hit-and-run case. One person was killed and three others injured when Khan allegedly drove into a group of homeless people sleeping on a pavement.
But for this:
Bollywood star Salman Khan has been placed under police arrest in India after a Rajasthan court upheld a prison sentence passed upon him for poaching. Khan had asked the court to overturn a five-year jail term, issued in 2006 for hunting a protected gazelle in 1998.Wherever you go, the rules of the power game are the same.

He's also ridiculously popular cause of one of his (relatively) recent movies in which he played a mob guy supposedly being inspired by Gandhi and applying his principles to todays problems. Non-violence kind of things. Good movie.
Authorities later found and illegal assault weapon in his posession. And was tried among a bunch of terrorists.
For some reason, this made me think of this Onion article.
It's actually even worse in India than you think. If you're a wealthy criminal, you run for office so you can avoid prosecution.
so environmentalists are more powerful than homeless advocates? more powerful than religious zealots decrying the sexualization of culture?
A point of clarification: The people he hit weren't "homeless" in the sense we Americans understand the word. They are what are known in India as "pavement dwellers". They live right there, on the edge of the road, probably in a hut made of plastic, wood, and cardboard. Millions of people live this way in Indian cities.
Just sayin...
What is poaching? Killing whales? I'm confused.
Actually, arandomdude - that was not Salman. Its another "Star" - Sanjay Dutt. And regarding the topic here, I have always wondered - whatever happened to his hit & run case.
You are absolutely right - "Wherever you go, the rules of the power game are the same"
