Arts The First Lady of the Sliding Scale

onI was putting together next week’s theater calendar when I noticed ACT is opening Souvenir, a play about Florence Foster Jenkins, the real-life would-be opera diva who self-confidence was only matched by her complete lack of rhythm, pitch, and tone. She was so confident and awful that people crowded to see her. Jenkins sold out Carnegie Hall on October 25, 1944.
About her critics, she said this: “People may say I can’t sing, but no one can ever say I didn’t sing.”
Here is a sample of her singing a famous passage from Mozart.
It’s amazing.

Hm, I'm smelling a new AI theme night...
I'm so happy that the world is discovering the magic that is FFJ. I picked this album up for 50 cents at the St Vincent's in Georgetown about four years, and have delighted in making my friends cringe through three songs. That's usually all they can handle. Makes me giggle every time. I don't know how they'll find an actor/opera diva bad enough to play her!
OMG! I love FFJ.
She sounds like the squeeze toy when I play fetch with my dog.
I hope they use the amazing Julie Briskman. She's an ACT staple, and she killed in Big Blond.
Patti Cohenour (who sang as Signora Naccarelli in the Lincoln Center's—and Intiman's—Light in the Piazza) cast been cast as FFJ.
Sanjaya!
My dog won't stop barking and growling after a FFJ song. Even a fire truck can't get him going like the famous Diva.
