Attention Geico Caveman Fetishists

The Geico cavemen have been given their own sitcom. Reuters reports:

[ABC has] picked up a comedy called “Cavemen,” adapted from the Geico commercials as an offbeat commentary on ethnic prejudice from the perspective of three prehistoric guys trying to make their way in the modern world.

I don’t know what to say. Can the Mucinex Phlegm Family Variety Hour be far behind?

I feel slightly dirty, but I'm both repelled and compelled by the idea of this sitcom.

I know they didn't exist on the planet at the same time, but will there be dinosaurs, a la from ABC's sitcom Dinosaurs, to eat the cavemen? I mean, it IS supposed to be an offbeat commentary on ethnic prejudice, is it not?

Can they give the UPS Guy That Draws on a Whiteboard his own show, too? I mean, why do we even have shows that aren't also commercials? If the show and the commercial are just one endless stream, no one can Tivo out the ads. It's brilliant.

With that said, I love those commercials, and the guy that plays the main disaffected caveman seems to be pretty talented, so maybe this will work. Or maybe it will be Encino Man 2: Limited Indemnity.

Oh God, if it's all about Caveman racism, I give it about 2.5 episodes before the plug gets pulled.

Weird. A television show that supports the theory of evolution, while at the same time negating it by its very existence.

Aislinn: Unfortunately, that actor isn't in the TV show, which is ridiculous because he's the only funny thing about the ads. Apparently one of the cavemen in the sitcom looks like Sanjaya.

I seriously laughed out loud at the Mucinex Phlegm Family Variety Hour.

There is absolutely no pride in saying that I shared a joint over the weekend with one of the writers of this new Geiko thing. Heck, it could have been sage for all i know.

I want a show built around the Berries and Cream guy.

@9: That they made a pilot is old news, but that it was picked up and will actually be airing was just announced today.

Thanks for the link, jamier. That's too bad that it isn't the original guy. I guess that since ABC is dominating right now, they're not too worried about taking a risk on something horrible, because they know at least people will talk about it, and they can probably get decent ad revenue on the first episode, because everyone will tune in to see the train wreck.

Time elapsed from Onion satire to actual occurrence: Exactly nine years.

The actor in the ads is great, IMO, as are the ads. But did you ever think, "man, I wish that were 17 minutes longer"?

Oh Max Headroom, did you teach us nothing?

#13 Thanks. The Onion always brightens up my day.

I actually like the commercials, I think they are some of the most clever and funny ad's I have seen in years. But they are just ad's and making them into a TV show sounds like an awful idea.

So yeah, I agree with #14.

Why are all the cavemen white?

Just saying ...

You can't have a BLACK caveman on TV, Will.

No Mucinex. It's gotta be Living in a Toenail with the Imitrex fungi. Still the grossest thing ever to exist, ever.

Ever, ever, ever.

If only Phil Hartman had lived long enough to make an Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer sitcom.

Your world frightens and confuses me!

#15 The studios are expecting one, which is why they are asking for scripts about two months earlier than usual.
