Actually, the point of the commercial is eHarmony discriminates against gays and is actual a Christian specific matchmaking site (according to a friend of mine who tried signing up).
As for the voice-over, I think they wanted to be inclusive to all, guys and gals. If I heard a man's voiceover, I probably would have assumed it was a gay man-only site.
Yeah, I saw it too, it was awesome! I think it's the first time I've ever seen a gay-themed ad on broadcast TV. The Commercial Closet should be all over this.
I have a friend who tried signing up for eHarmony. Although she said she was "looking for men," she's a bi vegan chick with strong liberal politics and regular Quaker meetings. eHarmony rejected her; she didn't find out that it was a "Christian" website until after the fact.
Dr. Warren also states that because same-sex marriage is illegal in most states, eHarmony "doesn't really want to participate in something that's illegal."
That's so strange. My agnostic friend met her atheist husband through eHarmony. They were both honest about their religious beliefs (or lack thereof) when they signed up. I'm surprised they weren't rejected. My friend is extremely liberal in her politics, as is her husband. They are both in the upper tiers economically (she's an OB-GYN, he works in software R&D), so perhaps that's why they were allowed to join. She couldn't have known about eHarmony's Christian affilliations, or its discriminatory practices, or she would have never used them.

That's fucking brilliant.
Yeah - the hubby and I cheered a little when we saw it! Brilliant!
It's interesting that they then have a woman do the voiceover.
#3 She could be a lesbian. :)

I think I've heard that about eHarmony, too.

While this is quite witty, it's also quite offensive.
loved it last night, love it now...had to replay it on the TiVo a couple of times to make sure i wasn't hearing things...
yes, eHarmony won't allow same-sex matching and they have direct ties to the Dobson Xtian Right.

6, uhhh how is this offensive (to anyone other than a straight, white, christian douchebag like the one's who run eHarmony)?
NICE! I like being acknowledged on occasion. It makes me feel like I am part of America. Fuck you, eHarmony for disregarding me.
