“Talk Sex” Not “Sex Talk”

I had a good time doing Sue Johanson’s call-in sex advice program. (And it was great to finally meet Wired’s Regina Lynn in person.) There was just one thing weird about the show: the call time. It’s a live show, on Oxygen from 11 PM to Midnight, and we asked to be at the studio by 7 PM. That’s four whole hours before airtime. Soooo we had lots of time to kill between rehearsals—also weird, as most television shows don’t let you rehearse lest you sound rehearsed (the calls were not rehearsed, just the intro and outro)—and getting into makeup. I didn’t bring a book so I slipped out of the studio, which is located inside a sports arena, and went for a walk around the Renaissance Hotel next door. (It was too cold to go for a walk outside.) And look what I found…

HonorBar.jpg

There’s an honor bar on the sixth floor of the Renaissance Hotel! If you take a drink you’re supposed to fill out a little form with your room number on it so they can charge you for it. Here’s the price list for those of you with any honor. For the rest of us, well, it looks like there’s an open bar on the sixth floor of Renaissance Hotel at One Blue Jays Way in the Rogers Centre/SkyDome. Oh, and there’s cake too!

And finally, to readers that complain about the names of Seattle’s comedy clubs: The names of comedy clubs suck everywhere.

Man that cake looks really good. A brownie also sounds good.

I hate it when people spell honor, "honour." It's so pretentious.

It's also the correct spelling in some parts of the world; it's not pretentious in that context.

Pretentious is $7.50 for a glass of house wine.

Seattle has three comedy clubs.

Giggles (which is a single club here in Seattle, but there is a chain based out of Florida called Giggles--so, if you hate that name...you're right, Dan, that hatred is to be spread cross-continentally.)

Comedy Underground (It's a comedy club...it's underground... I don't get the hate there.)

and the new one:
Mainstage Comedy & Music Club (A bit generic but not awful.)

The main chain of comedy clubs that stretches across Canada is called Yuk Yuk's.

For that reason alone, I think Seattle wins the whole "comedy club naming" battle, frankly.

I don't see that working in the U.S.

The only comedy club with a decent name was Holy City Zoo, in San Francisco and I guess that didn't work out so well, since they've been gone for quite some time now.

And remember: $4.50 for DOMESTIC beer in Canada! Where domestic beer is good! And that's in Canadian money, so at today's exchange rate, it's less than $4 US dollars. Almost worth a cheap airfare to Toronto.

LaffResort is still a better name than Giggles. Then, of course, Tubs is just down the street from that club. How I manage to get down Roosevelt without vomiting is beyond me.

Ummmm about the word 'honour'.

In Canada, becasue of their heritage, they spell like the English. So they have colour, grey, metre, and all that fun stuff (but not the weird ones like gaol or tyre).

So like... be aware. The pretentiousness of that sign has nothing to do with the word honour, that's just the canadian way.

The pretentious-ass thing on that sign are the words "exclusive of taxes." I mean, for fuck's sake. Also if they were really such hot shots, they would include the damn taxes.
