News Sonics get more soapbox time in Olympia
posted by January 18 at 12:32 PM
onThe Sonics’ Lenny Wilkens, and perhaps others, have been granted 30 minutes of stump time before State Sen. Margarita Prentice’s friendly Ways and Means committee today at 1:30 pm. Prentice, who refuses to return my calls, is a big Sonics booster. Last year, her detractors say, she stacked hearings with other team-boosters during debates over increased public funding for the arena.
Personal to the Senator: What will it take to get a call back? Chocolates? Flowers? I will take you to a game when Iverson’s in town. Please?!

You need to have a professional sports team. Maybe you can say that you're looking into bringing an American Thumbwrestling team to the area, and need some stadium money.
You also have to rely on taxpayer subsidies.
Um, wasn't Sen. Prentice on your list of people a few weeks back whose 15 minutes were up? Maybe you should have waited until after the session to publicly insult her on your news pages.
Oh, it's never to early to insult Sen. Margarita "All Sonics subsidies - all the time" Prentice.
That said, I'd venture to say that stating that her 15 minutes were up was probably a bit premature.
For all of state Sen. Prentice's talk of support for unionism and being a "new deal democrat," here's one member of no less than three unions who wishes to hell these same wealthy team owners occupying our tax-funded sports palaces would condescend to hire union talent to hawk and sell their perspective teams to ticket-holders.
Back to you, Margarita.
