News More Agenda Items From Opening Day in Olympia
posted by January 8 at 19:55 PM
onWhen I was leaving today’s swearing-in ceremonies, I ran into Zach Hudgins’s 11th District colleague, Bob Hasegawa. ( I had talked to Hudgins earlier today.)
I ran into Hasegawa by a snack table in the rotunda where he had just finished eating a bag of potato chips. Hasegawa had an ambitious (and kind of exciting) agenda.
He told me that he was thrilled (and a little nervous) to have been assigned vice-chair of the finance committee. There, he said, he was going to push a tax on excess oil company profits and also take up a bill being pushed by the Washington Tax Fairness Coalition that would force the value of corporate tax breaks to be itemized in the budget alongside other expenditures.
Additionally, Hasegawa says he wants part-time college students (that is, working class college students) to be eligible for college aid funding that’s currently only available to full-time students.

Josh:
If you can make any of this state crap interesting to read I am going to elevate my opinion of you from a 'dam good' political writer to a 'fucking great' writer!
The local stuff has at least some reference to our daily lives, we know the characters involved... we see them on TV, they're funny looking etc., but to make these state people interesting... now that's gonna require some major writing skills.
I'm pulling for you though man...
Good show on channel 9 right now talking about the 21st century racism against jews and the propaganda machine where it comes from. Watch 9 now ASAP. PBS wherever you are. This after moonraker and southpark holycrap what a night of t.v.
Extending more monetary aid to part time college students is a GREAT agenda. Some of those folks are re training for new jobs and helping them more is solid policy..... and much of this aid comes as loan which will be paid back... win, win for all.
The corporate stuff is silly babble.
Washington requires B and O taxes, collects professional fees, and all the rest of the taxes for L and I, and un- employment......
God forbid that some are making profits. Maybe the good economy and cash gushing in all directions is a good thing, especially for the state which can now pay its bills.
Babble, babble, babble. "Excess profits" - bet this guy has never owned a business himself.
Josh, ask Tim.
Josh,
How did you end up getting to Olympia?
did you take the train?
Well, HEY, at least he's set some reasonably solid goals that can actually help people. +5
