“We Are a Much Stronger Offensive Team”

posted by on December 18 at 14:35 PM

Dashing the hopes of many, Jose Vidro passed his physical, making him the Mariners’ new DH. From Larry Stone’s post-mortem wrap-up:

“Jose is a professional hitter,” said Bill Bavasi, the Mariners’ executive vice president and general manager. “We feel we can add him to our batting order anywhere from the second to the sixth spot and he will add production to our lineup. With the addition of Vidro and Jose Guillen to our returning players, I think we are a much stronger offensive team.”

Bavasi may be the only one who feels that way.

The Seahawks were also supposed to be a better team than last year. Have they not learned the lesson of the 2001 Mariners? It's better to be picked last and out perform than picked first and suck like a Dyson.

Bavasi must have a curious definition of “much” and “stronger.”

Um, Bill, isn't *everyone* in Major League Baseball, who isn't a pitcher, a "professional hitter"?

Bavasi has to know his ass is grass, and is now trying to stick it to his meddling ownership (Howard and Chuck) by saddling them with as many crappy contracts as possible.
