Global warming at work: one week after waking up to 30 degree ice cold... I wake up before the crack of dawn with rain, wind and temps at 61 degrees.

The bus driver link seems to be broken.
The "br%20/" needs to be taken off the end of the address.

If the economy is buzzing along at a brisk clip, as the Republicans would like you to believe, why is Wal-Mart slashing prices so early? Why are they worried about slowing sales?

B.D.,

The economy is blasting along -for those making six figure incomes. Those of us making less than $50k have seen our purchasing power wither due to high inflation and corporate earnings directed to the top wage earners.

In other news:

My mom told me yesterday that the preacher at the church she attends demanded that everyone vote Republican to protect the GOP and Jayzus, separation of church and state be damned (along with the fact the GOP is the most corrupt and immoral party this nation has ever seen). I can only imagine that similar directives spewed forth in churches all over the US yesterday.

My mom, a lifelong Dem to her eternal credit, was so mad that the preacher told her how to vote that she quit the church.

I don't think it'd be libelous to name the church.

Andrew, you are correct. The question was really rhetorical. It is a trickle down economics that allows the wealthy to shower in gold and the middle class and poor to take golden showers.

Wow! Golly gee! Saddam sentenced to death right before the USA elections!

There's a shocker.

Gomez,

It’s a church in the everyone-knows-everyone small town where my mom lives, so forget the IRS or the ACLU. I asked my mom if she would be willing to write a letter to the editor sharing her concerns, but that would make her a pariah in the town. Trust me; quitting the church was a major act of rebellion.

Saddam is to be hanged. An interesting bit about the continuing immorality of the present administration: during war prisoner interrogations, detentions, and now, executions. (Don’t forget, the US still has Saddam under US Marine Corp guard, Iraqis are only trying him, not responsible for his detention. If he is hanged in the Green Zone, or outside the Zone with US troops assigned to guard duty, it will be a statement that he was hung by the US. Even if the rope was made in Iraq and the the lever pulled by an Iraqi)

As a matter of public policy, hangings in the US as a means to fulfill a death sentence is considered inhumane. Lethal injections are considered humane. But where is the outrage, not that Saddam will be executed and deserves the right to life in prison, but that he will be executed using a procedure that US state governments consider too vile for even the of worst serial killers.

Phenics> that would be a tough sell. It's hard enough to convince people in this back assward country that the world was safer with Saddam in power. Can you imagine the reaction to, "hanging Saddam is inhumane"?

That said, I'll believe it when I see it. He'll probably commit suicude first.

I see, Andrew. I hope her fellow townsfolk treat her well, or at least give her minimal hell, for acting with integrity.
