Tonight at VAIN, freelance photographer (and occasional Stranger contributor) Breanne Koselke will unveil her latest project entitled “The Way We Get By.” The exhibit strives to show how a handful of local musicians continue to make rent and make music, capturing them in both their worlds of day job employee and onstage performer. I’ve always thought this was ripe subject matter and I’m glad Koselke has tackled it. Here is an example her photographic pairings—this is Shane Berry from local band the Divorce at work as a barista and onstage as a front man:
Photos of the Catch, Siberian, Kane Hodder, Schoolyard Heroes, and White Gold are also featured—the show opens at 6 pm this evening as part of the first Thursday art walk.
How deep. This artwork really makes me feel for their social plight.
Hmm. So these artists are able to "get by" on their demeaning "day jobs" in order to support the loftier, higher purpose of performing in shitty bands? That's deep.
nobody said anything about pity or feelings or depth or a lofty higher purpose. it's just an art exhibit about people's lives. some people are musicians. some people are longshoremen. somepeople are non-stop HATERS on the slog for no reason. there are plenty of things that make this interesting, and if it's not interesting to you, ignore it. hate hate hate.
Plus, human beauty is inherently interesting, if maddening, to behold.
i am hoping that the kane hodder photos are of eric working at blue shield. lol insurance!
