I was at the Doctor's office when the lightening and thunder started...It was like out of a movie, only I wasn't given any bad news preceeding the the rolling thunder.
What does the N stand for? "Nofun"? Do you fly around the city with a giant N on your chest regailing people with stories of how thing were in your day or from where you were from? Weeee. Kudos to you and your hour-long Eastern storms. It's still a cool picture.
To "N in Seattle": F**k you and your attitude. I grew up in the midwest, which has much more dramatic lightning storms than the east coast. This is, neverthelesss, a really cool picture.
Oh man...I'm sitting in my apartment (old house, converted into 4 units...not sure if it's properly grounded given that the main power line is attached to the place with a rope) when the lights started strangely flickering...
OK, remember count in between seeing the lightning and hearing the thunder game? The number of seconds is approximately equal to the number of miles away in which the lightning struck, right?
Well, I counted 0 seconds and my entire place shook...
I'm sure you mid-westerners are used to this, but I'm not. And, it only got worse because I'm pretty sure that urine is a good conductor of electricity.
At the risk of being dissed for my lack of appreciation for thunderstorms in Seattle or being told to f**k myself, I note Shoino's surmise:
OK, remember count in between seeing the lightning and hearing the thunder game? The number of seconds is approximately equal to the number of miles away in which the lightning struck, right?
Wrong. As shown in this equation, the speed of sound is approximately 1100 feet per second. So a good approximation for the distance between you and the lightning is a mile for every five seconds time interval, not every one second.

You know, I never believed eric at the Comet when he claimed the place was one of Seattle's hellmouths. Now we have photographic proof!
I love this picture. I've posted it to my livejournal, even!
Was that today? It's a beautiful picture.
BFD. It's just thunder and lightning, and not much of it.
What was it, maybe 3 or 4 flashes? That would be maybe a minute's worth in a typical hour-long Eastern storm.

Not much happened in the Seward Park area, I only heard of the power outages in other areas of the city.
Wow, really cool pic.

What's amazing is that, 2 miles south in SODO, we didn't see anything at all outside our windows. Just some more rain and wind.
Downtown, the Hill and North Seattle took the brunt of it.
Who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters!
What Matthew Stadler's dreams must look like.
