Chow Bi-Colored Good Looks

onMy boyfriend wanted to weigh in on the raging apple debate: Ambrosia is the new Honeycrisp. Please make a note of it. From some website or other:
Developed purely by nature as a chance seedling about 10 years ago in a Cawston, BC orchard, Ambrosia apples are one of the newest top quality varieties adding diversity to produce displays in grocery stores across the province. When it comes to apples, robust red has traditionally been the attractive favourite sought by consumers. However, Ambrosia, whose apt meaning is “food of the gods,” is breaking the red-is-best barrier with its bi-coloured good looks. Ambrosia apples are smooth-skinned stunners with a bright, almost iridescent reddish blush over a creamy yellow background.

Pretty on the outside is meaningless if they have no flavor. What do they taste like?
Um. Hello?? Pink Ladies rule. Especially in the late season, when everything else sucks.
Cortland is the only correct apple to enjoy. The cloyingly sweet apples of the Northwest sicken me.

BC is correct. When it comes to apples, color is irelevant, flavor is all.
Try gravenstein.
Pink Ladies are quite good (and win the award for best name, certainly). But not as good as Honeycrisp.
I don't know from this Ambrosia bit. And yeah, who cares what color it is?
bi sexual apples all taste better than those who limit themselves to only half the hot sexual experiences they could have if they were open minded =)
Winesaps rule. Not cloying at all. Pink Ladies are better that Honeycrisp -- not enough tartness in HC.
So it looks like a consensus: there are many apples out there for many uses and tastes. Some may only have their looks, nothing of substance. Others are good for grabbing a satisfyingly raw bite. The tart ones are great for baking, if nothing else.
i found the ambrosia to taste almost identical to an asian pear or jicama - kind of that stiff, mealy, watery texture. not so sweet or flavorful, i didn't think, but a satisfying crunch.
Ambrosia's have been around at our Ontario farmer's markets for a few years. They are by far the best apple I have ever, ever, ever eaten ever in my whole life. Seriously. I can't tell you how much better they are than Pink Ladys, Honeycrisps or any of the others. Texture and flavour. Whoo hoo!
I found Ambrosia apple in a fruit market in Detroit area recently. Bought a few to sample, was impressed by the flavor. Sweet and tasty, very pleasant. Better than a Red or Yellow Delicious. Same shape to the bottom as a Delicious variety, so it must be a variant.
