The Party of Personal Responsibility (tm) strikes again!
It's not my fault! I'm...um...an alcoholic! Yeah, that's it, that's the ticket, it was the Demon Rum!

It's not my fault! It's the fault of the pervasive atmosphere of sexual corruption created by the near-planetary gravitational pull of the Clenis!
Foley needs to pull himself up by his bootstraps. Obviously he is a product of the welfare state.
And um, I suppose the implication is supposed to be that all pederastic Catholic clergy are closet Democrats, what with their stances on abortion, separation of church-and-state, feminism, and whatnot, right?
Jeebuz, who are they going to try to pin this on next - ?
And no doubt he also had a domineering mother and an absent father. Combined with a dirty priest and an alcohol/drug problem, it's no wonder 1) he has chosen a "gay lifestyle" and 2) is acting out in response to all he has suffered.
Or could it be that 3) he is simply an asshole?
This is to keep the message on Foley and not on the House leadership.
Gee... wonder what the folks over at the The Survivors' Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP) will have to say about this... hope they say something... they always do... being media whores and all.
Why the censorship on Slog?
I've noticed some comments erased that were here this morning. Who is making the censorship decisions and what are you trying to prevent Slog readers from reading? Just curious.
Censorship, maybe they delete redundant moronic comments left on every slog post...
Oh, puh-lease! Tell me you all didn't see this coming from a mile away. So predictable. While there is some possibility that his statement is actually true, it is setting off all my bullshit alarms.
Is this the October surprise we were promised?
I wonder if the priest was from Iraq?
I'm looking forward to the book tour with Foley and Mcgreevy. Oh, how they have suffered.
Yes, Chris, I'm suspicious - could this actually turn out to work in the GOP's favor?
Rove is so good at playing mindgames that now anything at all that happens can be construed as "all being a part of his plan" - including what should be a disaster for the GOP.
For the circle to be complete, shouldn't Foley be hitting on young priests?
Mark,
That is one of the republican talking points. "If he was like that Democrat McGreeyey, he would have had a book out and been on Oprah by now." Saw it on MSNBC Today.
Christians are usually child molestors. This is an example of the viscious cycle that grows from their toxic religion. As a Jew I feel pity for these people because in Judaism child abuse simply never happens.
If we censored Slog, Shoshana's posts wouldn't be here for all of us to enjoy.
Thank you Dan. I agree. If Shoshana/Josh/et.al were not here I would have nothing to use my hyperjump for.

In Sweden the age of consent is fifteen. It's disgusting to imagine. Many Swedes would be sex offenders in jail if they were Americans. I'm glad in America we have morals.
True, it would just be the blog equivalent of an Alcohol Impact Area; all it would do would be to drive the trolls so some other poor schlub's comments page.
Let's drive them all over to The Weekly's blogs - it's deader than Mike Seely's braincells over there, so they'd probably feel right at home.
Perfect. Then you can be just like the red blogs. No discussion unless it agrees with yours.
I didn't let an old lady cut in line this morning. At first, I thought it was because I was in a bad mood, but I now realize that it was because I have a drinking problem (I had a glass of wine last night) and because I was an altar boy. Granted, I wasn't molested, but just think what I would have done to the old lady if I had been!!!
By the way, the only thing that would have made this whole scandal more tacky (and therefore perfect) would be a republican wife. A cross between Pat Nixon and Marilyn Quayle, complete with vapid smile, unfocused eyes, and Saint John's Knit suit.
the foley story is like a birthday present that just never stops. i can hardly wait to see what happens next! i hope pharmaceuticals are involved, preferably vicodin.
Oxyc*nt*n. (Sorry about the asterisks, the filter doesn't like this drug). Mark Foley and Rush sitting around in their tighty whiteys zonked on hillbilly heroin and jerking each other off while they surf the web for teens and porn.
Oh, sorry, you're trying to eat.
Y'all forgot one. Last thing he'll say is, oh yeah, and he was abducted by aliens. Cue Scully & Mulder
If you were a more thoughtful person, Dan, you might take a moment to reflect on the implications of the strong correlation between childhood victimization and adult perpetration of sex crimes.
It's easier to make fun of the Republican, though, and you're nothing if not intellectually lazy.
Yes. Childhood victimization that would be impossible to prove and shifts all the blame from Foley onto some nameless priest. How could Dan be so thoughtless?

Bullshit. If he was molested (and I ain't buying it) then that's too bad. But adults - as the Republicans keep piously reminding us - have RESPONSIBILITY for their actions.
Something else: There's something they kept chanting about while they were fixing the 2000 presidential election. What was it? Oh yes - RULE OF LAW!
A US Congressman has more resources available to him than the average citizen. He - or his peers - should have recognized this problem and taken action.
Stop being a whiny Christian Republican Victim (which seems a worse addiction to beat than crack) and start being an American. Or - if that's beyond you - just ask yourself what Jesus would do in this situation.
Mark Foley's lawyer discloses that Mr Foley was molested as as teen.
Is this meant to say that Mr Foley enjoyed the experience immensely and wants to pass it on to some lucky teens now? Or is he anticipating that someone will accuse Mr Foley of a similar crime and he wants us to know that Mr Foley "feels their pain"?
