Katherine Harris Is Gay

Posted by on August 29 at 11:29 AM

Happy, I mean, she’s happy. Happy about God. The former Secretary of State of Florida, now running for U.S. Senate, says in an interview with Florida Baptist Witness that…

The Bible says we are to be salt and light. And salt and light means not just in the church and not just as a teacher or as a pastor or a banker or a lawyer, but in government and we have to have elected officials in government and we have to have the faithful in government and over time, that lie we have been told, the separation of church and state, people have internalized, thinking that they needed to avoid politics and that is so wrong because God is the one who chooses our rulers.

In answer to the question: “Do you support civil rights protections on the basis of sexual preference?”

Civil rights have to do with individual rights and I don’t think they apply to the gay issues. I have not supported gay marriage and I do not support any civil rights actions with regard to homosexuality.

Mmm. Delicious Katherine Harris. And check out that glamour photo! Someone’s been to the mall.

*SIGH* Before people start going off about what a nutcase Katherine Harris is, and add her to the list of Christianist nutjobs along with Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell...

Could I at least point out that there is, in fact, no "separation of church and state" doctrine in our Constitution, that it is perfectly acceptable and right that religious folks be elected to govern, and that it is even a positive thing for elected officials (even D's!) to express their religious beliefs in public.

What is NOT allowed, and why Ms. Harris is just plain wrong, is when religious folks try to LEGISLATE their religious beliefs or promote the teachings/practice of one particular religion over another.

I don't think anyone is confused on that distinction, Mickymse, except Kathleen Harris and her ilk.

It's been fascinating to watch her implode over the past year. Staff defections by the truck load, openly lying to the RNC and donors, scandal after scandal. I don't think it's much of a stretch to say that she has a serious case of the crazies. She could be the next Anna Nicole! Coming soon to Reality TV...

Looks like someone finally gave her a Mascara 101 lesson.

I hate it when people start a sentence with, "The bible says." So what? The bible says a lotta weird shit. That doesn't mean it's true.

I can't wait to see how badly this nutjob loses.

My favorite question from the "interview":

"Is there something wrong with Florida and federal statutes when a severely brain-damaged woman who's not in the process of dying can be starved and dehydrated to death by her husband with the assistance of the courts?"

A good follow-up would have been, "Is it wrong to hate gays because they're amoral and crush kittens with bricks?"

a favorite quote of a religion prof of mine was, "People always talk about what the Bible 'says.' Everyone, be real quite, and listen. What does the Bible say? It says nothing. It's a book."

Not going to matter, the Giant Wave will crush her too.

The thing is, Harris's campaign is doing a huge amount of damage to the state Republican Party -- damage that will take years to recover from, in a state that the Republicans cannot afford to lose. This is excellent news.

If she's right and God is chosing our "rulers," then he is a bigger idiot than I thought.

MickeyMse, the principle of "separation of church and state" is in the First Amendment to the Constitution. The actual language is "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof . . . ." Certainly, government officers can exercise their religions, but they can't use those religious beliefs directly to advance their religion or to prohibit the free exercise of other religions.

@Mickymse: I agree with Fnarf's response.

@Miss Prism: so she finally passed Mascara 101. I hope next semester she's enrolled in "Fixing Windtunnel Hairstyles 212".

@SB: "If it turns out that there is a God, I don't think that he's evil. But the worst that you can say about him is that basically he's an underachiever."
--Woody Allen

Good point, FNARF. People forget that Florida is really a swing state, and that's why it's in the news so often.

Well, that and the hurricanes and incompetence of it's Governor.

The real reason Florida is in the news so often is that every known variety of kook and criminal and all-purpose freak show has set up shop there. Whenever you hear on the news about some guy who's made a lamp out of his next door neighbor, or sold a million tickets to the Second Coming, or surreptitiously dumped a billion gallons of radioactive gator shit in the sewer system, or manipulated his penis into an exact replica of Shaquille O'Neal, or just driven his pickup truck over his own head, it's always in Florida.

Bush's Gift Horse has Hoof in Mouth, again!

Hello Chris and all,

This gets to the root of the problem of deluded and greedy politicians who seek to impose their own ignorance on millions of others. Because of our reliance on money, politics, and religion, we are teetering on the verge of worldwide disaster. Idiots like Ms. Harris couldn't care less about everyone else as long as they get their hands on wealth and power, even if it means pretending to serve the Creator. It is long past time that people stand up for truth and justice and give these scoundrels their due.

Peace...

She fixed the 200 election, boys and girls.

She also doesn't believe in the Constitution, much like her boss.

Says it all, really.

2000 election, but you knew that.

I think that it is great that everybody blames me for their problems. It makes me feel very powerful indeed! The fact that I am gay is threatening straight people's marriages. Wow man! I am single handedly causing 1000s of people to get divorced! what fun. Now that I know that people hate me it makes it so that I can do whatever I want. I play music loudly at 200 am, I let my dog poop all over the neighbors lawn, I walk my dog wearing a pink robe and let her bark at 600 am, I tell jehovahs witnesses to fuck off. What do I care? Everybody hates me anyway. SEE, this is what happens when a society demonizes a group of people. They eventually become the selfish demons that you think that you are. HA HA.
