Dept. of Redundant Repitition

Posted by on August 10 at 15:08 PM

We’ve always talked about doing a column called “They Sent It to Us,” where we publish actual press releases sent to us by actual PR firms. This press release, which just landed in my inbox from a firm in Los Angeles, would be a good candidate.

LOS ANGELES, CA (August 2006) Before I Go, the debut novel of actress and writer Riley Weston, will be published in September 2006 by newly-formed Los Angeles-based Campfire Press. The fictional novel, which is aimed towards women of all ages, is the first book by Weston, who is best known as a writer on the hit television series, Felicity. With the flurry of publicity that surrounded her for lying about her age, Riley chose not to leave Tinseltown. Instead, like a great Hollywood comeback story, Riley stayed busy acting, singing and writing movies for television and the big screen. She recently sold a family comedy screenplay to Revolution Studios and now her debut novel is set to be published.

Sigh.

I’ll put the whole press release after the jump, in case you’re interested in reading more about Riley Weston’s fictional novel.

Before I Go is the story of Madison Henry is a champion ice skater on her way to the Olympics. Jack has been her one friend since she was six years old and now ten years later, Madison is completely oblivious to his deep feelings for her. When tragedy strikes unexpectedly, Madison is forced to look at her life differently...and accept one without skating. Only after she opens her heart entirely does she understand the magnitude of the sacrifices her mother made, realize the depths of Jack's love and know in her heart that she was blessed in every way.

"I wrote this for women of all ages,” said Weston. "Before I Go is a story for young adults, mothers, grandmothers, ice skating fans. Very few books today target multiple demographics and I wanted to write one that spoke to not just one group but many. When asked about writing her first novel, Weston commented, "I have written television and screenplays in the past but found I had to be limited due to page counts. But with Before I Go, I was able to just write and not have to worry about the length.”

Campfire Press co-founder Brad Sexton stated, "I have read so many books and scripts throughout the years but never have I been such a huge fan of a piece of material as I am with Before I Go. I was so impressed and amazed by how truly invested I became in the characters and the story while reading this novel. I can't wait to see the movie someday.”

Before I Go is being published by Campfire Press September 21, 2006.

I think the phrase you're looking for is "Department of Redundancy Department".

Isn't this the weirdest part of the press release:

"With the flurry of publicity that surrounded her for lying about her age, Riley chose not to leave Tinseltown."

Lying about her age? Huh ...?

I'm sorry, but you lost me there.

Repitition?

Are we to assume sic throughout? Because woah.

How do I get my cats jobs writing press releases? That would be a great source of extra income, and apparently they're more than qualified.

you guys are classic. give em a break. probably too young (19 or so) to remember her story. good story back in the day. did you read her book?
And permalink, get a real reporting job with a real office and a real desk for a press release to actually land on. you are a bloggger working for banner advertising money. at least she wrote a book. better than being a blog writer...in my opinion geeezzz....
