One of the reasons I love Slog is that it's a great LOCAL blog. Lately it seems that Slog's considerable national readership is pushing Slog east and south.
Keep your national stuff (esp Jen Graves & Dan Savage) but I wish you would add a little more Seattle focus.
I would trade a picture of Lenin "for Charles" for some local writing by Charles anyday.

Sorry what instigated my last post wasn't stated: no local news in the Morning news.

Uh, India train bombing?

um yeah... what Lisa said. The second time.

Lt. Watada's situation is news that is both of local and national interest. That story could be followed by The Stranger at arm's length, as a suggestion.

I live in Sacramento-a really crappy place but that's where my work is. SLOG is one of the 2 or 3 blogs I visit on a regular basis. I blast past most local stuff but I like that there's local Seattle content. Most sites don't feel like they're from anywhere Slog feels like Seattle (a place I've never visited). Weirdly I also listen to KEXP.

Lisa et al,
Slog fills you up with local news all day...
The Morning News is intended as a quick wrap up of the national headlines w/ some local headlines in the mix... if there are any big local stories. There wasn't much exciting local news this morning. I'll be sure to get more in the mix for the rest of the week.

Plus: There'll be plenty of breaking local news in tomorrow's print edition Stranger.

When we're done doing what the Prez sees most fit to do ("fighting them over there"), where will they reposition to fight us next?

I'll speak for the et al...

Thanks for clarifying the staff's view point for content worthy stories for The Morning News... which are big stories according to the staffer doing the morning posting? Or is it done by committee or group? But The Stranger is a local paper, which is why I read it, instead of another city's weekly rag (such as The Mercury, for example).

Personally, I find some stories in the wrap-up informative (except the low-ball "same as always", (really, Iraq is still an issue today?)). But there are always something big happening locally (at least in Pacific Northwest i.e. washington/idaho/oregon area). IMHO, I am suspecting that if a Stranger reporter is not 'covering' a local (i.e. cool Seattle-centric) story, then it is not a 'big story'.

But, hey, is that what's great about this sort of thread or what?... anyone can post a link to their own 'big stories' or just be cranky about what is (or isn't) in the top level posts.

Phenics,

This whole thread started when Lisa said: "One of the reasons I love Slog is that it's a great LOCAL blog."

Why does she think Slog is a great local blog? Most likely because all day long, we're posting updates on local stuff like the Critical Mass story and the viaduct and Tom Francis's development posts and city hall politics and the race for the 8th and the Cantwell/McGavick race etc...

You're reading way too much into "The Morning News." Again, it's a quick hit on the big headlines of the day. If there's a big local headline, it'll be in there. As I said, I'll be attentive to getting more in there for the rest of the week.

No staff committee on The Morning News.

Syd Barrett's dead.

Iraq is dead.

Oh, wait, I'm supposed to pretend it isn't.

My bad.

When do we leave? Are we at the Victory Parade yet?

Josh: Obviously.

But don't worry... I for one will make sure to point out the big Seattle/Pacific Northwest stories The Morning News poster doesn't care to write-up.

Thanks for the forum y'all...
