Overheard at Capitol Hill Block Party

Posted by on July 31 at 10:12 AM

FRIDAY NIGHT—
Event Patron 1 (watching Band of Horses): “Do you like this band?”
Event Patron 2: “Oh, I love them!”
Event Patron 1: “The singer’s got kind of a muppet mouth.”
Event Patron 2: “Yeah, his funny mouth is one of my favorite things about the band.”

LATE SATURDAY NIGHT—
Spencer Moody (to cop): “Why are you being so mean?”

I thought Block Parties were supposed to enliven the street and create community. The Capitol Hill Block Party was like a Mini-Gated Community; to me it felt like the antithesis of the whole 'feel' of the hill. I hated it.

I loved it, and I love Ben's mouth.

it was the best block party to date. the new layout was a vast improvement over the past, sound was extraordinary for an outdoor event, and the line up was truly fantastic.

ben is one of the most charming frontmen to emerge from the 206 in a long time. and spencer? forget about it, he is the best.

paulus: funnily enough, i have heard spencer utter the exact same phrase to a cop, in a remarkably similar setting. we were in austin, for sxsw, and johnny law had just busted us for drinking tall boys in the street. actually, i think the exact quote may have been "why are you being such a dick?" which doesn't go down so well in texas.

as the devils demonstrated with their blistering performances this weekend, sometimes it seems as if no time has passed.
