What Passes for Commentary

Posted by on May 23 at 13:46 PM

Anthony Hecht and I have both posted here about the Competitive Enterprise Institute’s over-the-top propaganda campaign against Al Gore’s movie, An Inconvenient Truth. Today on Fox, a representative for another oil company-backed conservative organization, the National Center for Policy Analysis, said watching An Inconvenient Truth to learn about the environment was like watching a movie by Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels to learn about Nazi Germany.

ThinkProgress has the story.

Erica, did NOBODY there go to the Town Hall transpo thingie last night? I was counting on you to deliver the news.

*sigh*

I went to the book talk instead.

Full report in tomorrow's paper.

Whew. Thanks! I'll be looking for it.

I have one word to respond to this clip:

FUCK.

I went to a Mariners game instead - priorities. Oh, and Erica, thanks for the news (too bad about that other Town Hall thing I emailed you on).

SHIT... I was hoping that I could just blow off this movie the same way I blow off Mike Moore movies... while I am not a member of the choir, I am among the congregants. It’s just that I don’t like being be preached at, that’s all.

But when billion dollar industries spend millions to counter the message, why, I get the impression that there is something there they don’t want me to know about. Just follow the trail of money, then turn left.

Erica is right, we all must take action. I shop at Whole Foods and drive a brand new Hybrid car to my job at Microsoft. I only eat locally grown sustainable produce. Even the dishsoap I use is ecofriendly. I challenge the rest of you to really do something to stop global warming.

I walk to work, skateboard to other work locations, and live two blocks from the PCC so I can walk my groceries home.

Plus, I put my blankets in the cupboard.

That should stop global warming.

Climate change? For at least 100,000 years.

Those poor oppressed Exxon executives.

Phenics, I agree 100%. I too was gonna pass on this movie, mostly because I'm already on their side, and figured I didn't need to spend $10 to see it. But Big Oil spending millions trying to quash it pisses me off. So now I'm gonna go see Gore's movie just as a 'fuck you!' to Exxon.
