Ignorance Remains Bliss

The Pew Research Center recently updated a question about happiness that the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago has been asking since 1972.

In every asking of the question, ROLL CALL reports, Republicans have been happier than Democrats.

Republicans tend to be better off than Democrats, and that is one explanation for the happiness gap. But when the researchers controlled for household income, Republicans at all income levels were happier than Democrats at those same income levels.

Denial is a comfort to those who are going to Hell, I guess. Hence the results.

The rest of us aren't that happy because we don't deal well with betrayal, the destruction of the middle class, overwhelming national debt, and the realization that a bunch of chimps could do a better job than the occupants in DC.

I actually think Democrats get more riled up and angrier about events of the world than Republicans do. Many of these events are, despite our best intentions, beyond or should be beyond our control, but that's not the point. The point is that the Republicans are likely happier on average because they aren't flipping out every 2 or 3 days over something... whether or not they got a monkey elected to the oval office or they helped start a crappy war in Iraq.
