Octavia Butler is Dead
This is truly sad. Seattle has become a deadly place for famous black writers.

She was an amazing writer. This is terrible news.
I'm heartbroken. She was only 58... the last time I went to hear her lecture, she mentioned plans for a whole slew of books. so, so awful.

I just learned about this this morning. It's horrible. I met Octavia Butler a few times; she always struck me as deeply, utterly different from everyone around her, not in an in-your-face-rebel way, but in a way where you could tell it truly never occurred to her to be otherwise. I loved that.
