Limited Tickets to Our Sims V. Hutcherson Debate

Posted by on February 27 at 10:00 AM

Tickets to our Ron Sims/Ken Hutcherson debate (Town Hall, Thurs. March 2 @ 7:30) will be sold at the door for $5.

However, a limited batch of advance tickets is still available. You have to buy them at the Stranger offices. They will be available here (1535 11th AVE., Third Floor) today (Monday) and Wednesday between 1pm and 5:30pm. Cash only.

King 5 reporter Robert Mak is moderating the big debate which pits K.C. Exec Sims (who likens today’s gay rights movement to the Civil Rights era of the ’60s) against Antioch Bible Church Pastor Hutcherson, who finds the analogy insulting. (He’d love to tell you why!)

Both men, prominent figures in King County’s African American community, are driving forces in today’s gay marriage debate. Sims helped orchestrate the lawsuit filed by gay couples—currently pending in state Supreme Court—that is aimed at overturning the ban on gay marriage. Hutcherson organized the May Day for Marriage rally at Safeco Field in 2004 & has threatened to organize a boycott of Microsoft for its support of Washington state’s gay rights bill.

Just a request for clarification...

Is the Stranger offering compensation
to these gentlemen to perform at this
Town Hall event or offering to endow money to an entity of either participant's choice for their participation in what one should assume is a Stranger initiated, sponsored and promoted event? Is Mak being compensated for his efforts?

Thanks again for the input.

The men are not being compensated. The ticket price goes to cover Town Hall's not inconsiderable expenses in hosting the event. We hope to break even, if we do better, the money goes to Town Hall, which needs and deserves it.

I will compensate someone willing to film the debate, and send it to me in PDX. Any takers?

I welcome the MS boycott. We need more Linux users.

Come on up Amy J.
See it live.
I'll set aside a ticket for you!

I'd love to head up, but we're mired in endorsement-meeting scheduling down here (primaries are at the beginning of May! it's all absentee ballot, and they go out in mid-April! yikes!)... I don't think I can skip town at the moment, esp. midweek. :(

$10 says Hutch doesn't show. Why would he? He only preaches to choirs.

Hutch's hatred and bigotry toward the GLBT community is strangely reminiscent to those of ex-Spokane Mayor Jim West... I think that there's more to this Hutch than meets the eye. I just can't wait for it all to come out!

Sims will make him look silly and stupid - like a far right churchie bad ass.

Sims is word class in this sort of stuff. Hutch is a country fellow, sucked into the fun of being the leading gay basher in a world of his peers who think that counts.

Where is the drama, not a fair match at all.
