“The Wasilla Hillbillies”

posted by on November 5 at 16:53 PM

Disgruntled McCain aides doing all they can to undermine Sarah Palin’s plans for 2012:

NEWSWEEK has also learned that Palin’s shopping spree at high-end department stores was more extensive than previously reported. While publicly supporting Palin, McCain’s top advisers privately fumed at what they regarded as her outrageous profligacy. One senior aide said that Nicolle Wallace had told Palin to buy three suits for the convention and hire a stylist. But instead, the vice presidential nominee began buying for herself and her family—clothes and accessories from top stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus…. One aide estimated that she spent “tens of thousands” more than the reported $150,000, and that $20,000 to $40,000 went to buy clothes for her husband. Some articles of clothing have apparently been lost. An angry aide characterized the shopping spree as “Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast,” and said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books.

Can’t wait. And it appears that McCain’s people didn’t want Palin to launch her 2012 bid immediately before McCain’s concession speech:

McCain himself rarely spoke to Palin during the campaign, and aides kept him in the dark about the details of her spending on clothes because they were sure he would be offended. Palin asked to speak along with McCain at his Arizona concession speech Tuesday night, but campaign strategist Steve Schmidt vetoed the request.

Aw, crap. HTML parsers, you are the bane of my existence! That was not an open tag mark!

Here's what I meant to say:

Steve, I love you THIS --> <-- much more for telling Palin to shut up.

nice try bobscat, but Palin is a Governor not a Senator. she is still f'd. now that everyone knows about all that crude covered cash, they might have some trouble getting any more federal grants

@3: The President is not the "boss" of the Senate.

@7. That's the Vice President's job! [says Palin]

And it's not like she'll lose her job over this considering they just reelected a convicted felon.

lighten up francises - i know my organizational charts! Bottom line is, if your boss wants your fired - you are going to get the axe one way or another.

Unfortunately, the Alaskan voters have re-elected convicted felon Ted Stevens. The US Senate will expel him. Alaska will be forced to have another Senate race. Sarah Palin will likely win.

I think we owe Sarah a lot of thanks for Ohio, Virginia, Indiana and Florida.

Stevens has not won in AK. It's a dead heat, and there are a shitload of absentee ballots to count -- I read 20,000 somewhere.

Ahh, this explains her crying last night. I knew it wasn't just about losing.

I live in Alaska and Sarah Palin has made us out to be a bunch of hicks and idiots up here.. Of course, re-electing convicted felon Ted Stevens didn't help our image all that much, either. We don't want her back - leave her at the mall!

For those too lazy to read the second page of the Newsweek thing, you missed some goodies:

"Palin launched her attack on Obama's association with William Ayers, the former Weather Underground bomber, before the campaign had finalized a plan to raise the issue. McCain's advisers were working on a strategy that they hoped to unveil the following week, but McCain had not signed off on it, and top adviser Mark Salter was resisting."

"At the GOP convention in St. Paul, Palin was completely unfazed by the boys' club fraternity she had just joined. One night, Steve Schmidt and Mark Salter went to her hotel room to brief her. After a minute, Palin sailed into the room wearing nothing but a towel, with another on her wet hair. She told them to chat with her laconic husband, Todd. "I'll be just a minute," she said."

And from the non-palin world:

"The debates unnerved both candidates. When he was preparing for them during the Democratic primaries, Obama was recorded saying, "I don't consider this to be a good format for me, which makes me more cautious. I often find myself trapped by the questions and thinking to myself, 'You know, this is a stupid question, but let me … answer it.' So when Brian Williams is asking me about what's a personal thing that you've done [that's green], and I say, you know, 'Well, I planted a bunch of trees.' And he says, 'I'm talking about personal.' What I'm thinking in my head is, 'Well, the truth is, Brian, we can't solve global warming because I f---ing changed light bulbs in my house. It's because of something collective'.""

My friends, contrary to what The Stranger says, this election is not over. McCain/Palin can still win! All you gotta do is believe. And then go back to your polling place and vote again.

It's not too late!

Vote for McCain/Palin in 2008!

I did--and look how smart I am.

I don't want to defend Palin, but Wasilla is a shithole not only culturally but in clothing options. Until Target opened last month on the grave of Gottschalks/Lamonts (RIP), the clothing store options were Fred Meyer, Walmart, a super shitty Sears and a couple of thrift stores. And the actual Wasilla hillbillies are much, much more frightening with their meth-rotted teeth.

Wasilla having crappy stores is no excuse for fugliness. I spent a year in Alaska and looked perfectly presentable thanks to mail order (we're talking pre-http days).

Well, her and Ted Stevens have a lot in common. Both R's. Both from Alaska. Both sought office to enrich themselves and fuck the American people. Am I glad the American people woke up!

"...about the continent versus the country when we talk about Africa..." Even after the fuss, whe still doesn't know. She thought it was a country, they said it was a continent, now she figures it could be either, depending on the context. Maybe if she could see it from her office she'd have a clearer idear of it, you betcha.
