Is It Too Early to Hope for a Touring Production?

posted by on November 3 at 12:00 PM

WHAM City is doing a production called “Shoot Her! Jurassic Park, the Play.”

Here’s a description:

Dinos roam the earth again, animated by what Natalie Jenison and Dina Kelberman call “papier-mâché technology.” Director Donna Sellinger swears that this production is neither a joke nor a parody, but a loving, scene-by-scene homage to Spielberg’s original.

And here’s a picture:

I can’t explain why I’m so fond of hyper-low-budget adaptations of giant movies, but I really am. I’d love to see someone (Open Circle Theater?) mount this production here ASAP.

Wham City is an arts collective in Baltimore (and home to Dan Deacon):

I remember seeing some video of a few scenes a while back. They're up to something over there.

Seconding Levislade. Of every good show in Seattle that I've missed (always seem to be the ones I miss that are good), that one takes the cake of regret.

I wonder if they got this idea from The State:

Ahead of its time.

Hi. First of all, i would never call anything “papier-mâché technology.”

Secondly, yes you should all come to the show! It's pretty likely that this will be the last time this production gets produced, so get it to any of these few shows if you really wanna catch it (which you should). THE DEAL:

NOV 11 - PHILADELPHIA - THE PHILADELPHIA INSTITUTE FOR ADVANCED STUDY

NOVEMBER 12 - PURCHASE COLLEGE

NOVEMBER 13 - VASSAR COLLEGE

NOVEMBER 14 - BOSTON - MASS ART

NOVEMBER 15 - NYC - MARKET HOTEL

NOVEMBER 16 - GOUCHER COLLEGE

Also, i'd never seen that State sketch before but now I have decided to coerce Ed Schrader into performing Jurassic Park 2 on his own.
