Time’s Obama Portfolio

posted by on October 23 at 8:48 AM

Time photographer Callie Shell has posted a series of candid campaign-trail shots of Barack Obama, who remains as freakishly photogenic as ever, but it’s the family shots that kill me.

That was awesome, but I really wish Time wouldn't jinx it with that cover!

Obmama could take a piss on stage in front of everyone and the adoring media would never report it.

@4 Whereas John McCain has probably pissed himself many times on stage, but the media will never find out - Thanks, Depends!

Can you please disable that Dan Savage cost the election thing? It plays every time I refresh the Slog page.

Thank you.

Oh these photos with their accompanying stories make me love Obama even more!

Especially the one where he cleaned up the counter after himself, and the two boys looking up at him at a rally.

I am extremely antsy about that cover. The last thing we need is to jinx this, lol. Other than that- wow. Those are some amazingly endearing photos. God he is such a photogenic person with such a photogenic family. I don't even know him personally and yet I I feel this warmth from these candid shots that I rarely ever feel with politicians.

i hope his grandmother makes it to jan. 4th. can't t. boone pickens or george soros or some other america-hating rich fuck send a jet to get her brittle bones to DC for the inaguration?

"Two staffers had just passed this site and done two pull-ups. Not to be outdone, Obama did three with ease, dropped and walked out to make a speech. Missoula, Mont., 4/5/2008."

Where did that guy that I'm attached to go? He's usually making a delusional comment by now.

Far from "jinxing" it, media coverage like this can give the impression that it's all sewn up, which could lead to a) depressing GOP turnout and b) creating bandwagon effects at the polls for Obama. This is no time for superstition; just get out there and darken the fuck out of those circles / incomplete lines.

Those are some of the most amazing photographs ever. I love the one of him and Michelle. They look so right together.

Seriously. From last May. And I also can't get the first link on her sit to work. Just see the first few photos and then a big "website cannot be found" after the link.

@3 - Same here.

@12 - I clicked that link and am apparently forbidden from seeing the page.

Is this a subscription site or what?

Anyone have a working link for the second page of pics? All I'm getting is the one page and the thumbnail page isn't coming up.

Maybe the site is overtaxed from the sudden interest? Any geek geniuses available to set up a mirror site somewhere?

this is what a president looks like! the link works fine for me. the photographs are amazing. i want this man for president! this man is inspiring the youth of america. there is something so deeply touching about the faces of those children looking up to him, watching him.

I was able to see all the pictures... not sure what the issue that others are having is. What a great collection. He really does seem warm and genuine in these photos, in a way that most politicians (R or D) do not.

@3, 12, 20, 21

The links work fine for me. They are done through javascript - the images appeared below the current photos... eventually the page becomes very, very long with photos.

some suggestions off the top of my head: Don't open in new tab/window, just left-click. (I got the error you saw when I tried opening in a new location.)

If not, try restarting your whole browser. Or make sure your Javascript is up-to-date.

If all else fails, download FireFox.

The link isn't working for me either. I get the first three photos and then nothing.

that barbershop picture is great, i love the look on the kid's face. i'm truly finding it difficult not to view barack obama as a completely awesome person. not that i would deny it necessarily, but i want to maintain some skepticism about him since he is a politician and all, but it's proving to be very tough.

mark me if i'm wrong, but i suspect this is the only time in history anyone has seen a first lady's--or prospective first lady's--feet. michelle obama feet!

There are some great photos in this set. It's hard to pick a favorite. I love so many of them.

*sigh*

I think I have a crush on our next president.

For everyone who can't view those photos, try Firefox. It wasn't working for me using IE 6, but firefox works without any issues.

@32: An "HTTP 404 Not Found" error is a server error. It would happen no matter what browser you're using.

Cutest First Family EVUH!

The Kennedy's were too brittle, the Teddy Roosevelt's were too rambunctious and the Franklin Pierce's were wracked with melancholy...
