The Horrible

posted by on October 19 at 10:20 AM

Writes a reader at The Corner:

I watched Governor Palin on SNL last night. Though I was uncomfortable with all the slams against her as she stood and sat there during the skits, I came away with even more admiration for her. She can stand with those that are vehemently opposed to her, yet show grace, humor and strength. That is exactly the kind of strength, poise and conviction of values that we desperately need in the highest office of our land.

How sad. How Horrible. How absolutely horrible! The whole business with Palin was unwatchable. And one so desperately wanted Tina Fey to return and continue her blows and slams on that most ugly and uncouth human being.

Change the word "she" to "he" and "skit" to "entire fucking campaign," and that whole thing pretty much applies to Obama. You wanna see grace, check out the black guy answering getting called a "racist" and a "terrorist" on a daily basis without even raising his freaking voice. That's strength.

it doesn't take a whole lot of brains or grace or anything to sit in front of an audience and deal with being made fun of loudly. that's called middle school for approximately 99% of the population.

Truth and Real are Destructive Powers, like the Goddess Kali -- they wipe away the falseness and the parody. Fey RAN from Palin, like a kid who had slipped up to the teacher's desk and was imitating her in front of the class while the real teacher was called away. Then the real teacher comes back and Fey RAN to her seat, hoping now one would rat her out.

Palin is Kali.

fey was following a script, john. you know, something that was written for her and that she rehearsed ahead of time. talk about "truth" [noun] and "real" [adjective], you don't seem to know the difference between fiction and non. and where the hell did someone like you hear about kali? that does surprise.

I wanted to choke her when she said, "That's not how I think my press conferences would have gone." Well HAVE A PRESS CONVERENCE and we'll see if that's how they go.

Charles, have you dumped Amanda for Sarah? Lately I've had to go to other sources for my Knox news!

Didn't watch it. Won't watch it. Not ever.

Tina Fey exposing Palin for what she is has been very funny, both genuinely and cathartically. Satirists are always needed and Ms. Fey's satire has been sheer genius. The actual fact that she has this target to skewer, however, isn't funny, it's tragic.

Palin being Palin has to be the least funny thing in the world today. Palin is the opposite of joy, the opposite of humor, the opposite of fun. Perhaps they put her on SNL specifically to prove this point?

She's a local TV news cunt. What the fuck were you expecting? It's what she used to do for a living.

SNL's never going to recover from this. Their souls have dried up and blown away.

Oh please - she wasn't all THAT bad. You're so deluded by your hatred for her that you can't even be objective. She's not trying to win YOU over; she already knows she can't. I'm not voting that ticket, but I still appreciated that she could laugh at herself.

D'oy, you guys are always so gay I swear.

The SNL skits were funny, but she didn't really do very much. McCain and Obama have done better, and Huckabee was the real master when he was on SNL.

"Thats not the way my press conferences would have gone"

because....they haven't happened yet.

@10: the question isn't "was she funny or not?" The question is "why the fuck are you watching that fascist airhead?" She could be the funniest thing since the Marx Brothers and her appearance would still be a grave offense to decency.

I felt the wind knocked out of me when Alec Baldwin told Palin she was much hotter in person. I felt betrayed, like a good friend making fun of something you said in the car on the way to the party for all to hear -- proving McCain's pick was right for all the wrong reasons. I saw SNL for exactly what it is, the sketch comedian in the group that sells you down the river if there's the slightest chance of getting laid.

@13 Not only have I watched many a "fascist airhead" in my life but read a few posts by fascist airheads as well. I've got an open mind. Ain't that a CORKER, Fnarf?

Open Letter to Tina Fey

Tina, your insecurities are showing. Just like you hinted on Letterman, there was no side-by-side screen shot of you next to Governor Sarah Palin. You don’t have to worry over your beauty being unfairly compared to hers. Your new found insecurity is understandable. It has been a rough year for women.

Stronger women than you have crumbled under the constant barrage of misogyny. It’s tough to feel secure as a woman, have positive self-esteem when we are called bitches, castrators, and ignorant c*nts. It’s hard to feel confidence when we see other women abandon each other. Even worst, actually pick up a stone and join the mob. It rocks your self-esteem doesn’t it? It’s hard to be secure in your own physicality after watching the Governor’s inherent value reduced only to her sex appeal and beauty. Her intelligence and contributions casted aside and mocked.

I understand Tina. But do you understand? You reap what you sow.

Tina, you are on notice. You made fun of our future Madam Vice President, as you did with Hillary. PUMA ROAR!

tup@16 "her intelligence" "casted [sic] aside"? what are you talking about? if she were intelligent she wouldn't be nearly the comedy gold mine tiny so rightly mines. our future madam vice president is on her way to being the ex-governor of alaska, with maybe a reality show deal with cable, and nothing more. boo hoo for you.

@17

Thanks. And I must give a shout out to Amy. She was amazingly secure in herself last night. Her wit, her intelligence, her contributions, her security in her own body image and its inherent beauty. Powerfully secure woman! Empowering to watch. Stark constrast to Tina’s woefully naked insecurities.

"The figure of Kali conveys death, destruction, fear, and the consuming aspects of reality. As such, she is also a "forbidden thing", or even death itself."

Yes, Sarah Palin does have some characteristics of Kali

She's a terrifying demagogue, and she's all the scarier because I can't take my eyes off her. Kali, indeed.

I agree ... horrible. Someone who's unflappable and poised just shouldn't even be considered for high office. I guess that lets out Mr Obama then.

no seajay, what's horrible is that there is no substance to the woman's mind, yet she is admired for having poise and confidence, like that's ENOUGH. that's what's horrible. you just deliberately go out of your way to misinterpret everything on this blog, and it's tedious.

I haven't watched SNL in about 5 or so years until the last few weeks when Tina Fey was killing Palin. I didn’t watch this weekend because I don’t think Palin deserved to be on the show. I’ll probably not watch the show for another few years. I see SNL inviting Palin to do the show as a slap in the face. F Palin. She, like Bush, is an embarrassment to this country.

Tina really looked like she wanted to cut a bitch during that half second walk-past the two of them had.
